We finished Sirens, and then caught-up to season 2 of Conan O'Brien Must Go; but that was only 3 episodes. Mrs. Scotch is begrudgingly watching "And Just Like That" when each episode airs on Thursdays, but she's getting closer and closer to bailing on that.

Most of what we want to watch is on AppleTV+. We signed-up for that several years ago, got to the end of some season of The Morning Show, and tried to cancel. It was hell, because we don't have an iPhone or any Apple device. We eventually figured out a way, but we don't want to go through that again.

However, we can now select AppleTV+ through our Amazon Prime TV app. So we're doing that now. We started with Shrinking, with Jason Siegel, which is excellent. There is something that may happen after we watch the 7th episode, requiring us to subscribe to AppleTV+. We'll try to figure it out when it happens. We have a big list of shows to watch, including Ted Lasso, Your Friends & Neighbors, and The Morning Show.

Also, I heard the new season of Somebody Feed Phil, the travel/food show with Raymond co-creator Phil Rosenthal, starts tonight.
My son likes "The Shrinking". He got a free 3 month trial of AppleTV+ just to watch it. He's debating if he wants to renew. He has an iPhone so he shouldn't have any issue if he decides to cancel.

The greatest TV doc of 2025....nay....the greatest piece of media that will air all year premiered on Netflix on June 17th.

Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem

I have made it very clear that Rob Ford will forever be my favorite politician.

He was populist, fat, into drugs, all about forcing through his agenda and even as mayor he would still coach high school football. Plus he was so into the Leafs I gotta respect it. Like me with the Eagles.

He got fucked up watching a Leafs at Blackhawks game in Chicago then after decided it was a good idea to go to like a state dinner all fucked up.

I love him so much.

His brother and dad are and were also cool but that family will never live up to Rob's legacy.

That dude from Long Island tried to challenge Rob for the crown but he didn't survive long enough for it to be a real battle.

Really though, Rob was a good guy with issues. The Long Island dude literally stole money from a fund for a veteran's sick dog. All Rob's shit was only hurting himself. Even if you don't agree with his politics I think it's clear he did try to do what he genuinely thought was best for his constituents.

I liked Rob as well. If he hadn't have got cancer, I think he would have won a second term. His brother didn't have same charisma although he seems to have found success as the Ontario Premier. He is on his 3rd majority term now. Something that hasn't been done in Ontario since the 1940s. Even Bill Davis who was Premier for something like 30 years had minority terms slipped in so he never won 3 straight.

Doug Sr. seemed kinda like a dick according to the doc.

They made it out like Rob just wanted to make him proud and wasn't good at business or sports so he went into politics. Apparently Sr. would only respect his sons if they took one of those 3 paths.

Anyway, sorry for being ignorant but what is a person elected to the provincial legislature called? Is that more like your version of the Senate of House or Reps? Or is it like our State reps and senators?....which are clearly less important than the national ones. Cause tbh I had no idea about Rob's dad but apparently he was a member of your provincial legislature from 95 to 99.

Premier is just your weird way of saying Governor right?

Premier sounds way cooler than Governor btw. I'd way rather be referred to as Mr. Premier.

That's like something that would turn me on in bed......."You're my Premier", "I need my Premier", "Keep going Mr Premier".

I know I know......we can't have nice things. Shut it nerds.

I never heard of Doug Sr. Only his sons. Rob's son is a city counsellor now in Rob's old district.

Our provinces are at the same level as your states. The provincial government works about the same as the federal government here. We vote for a local representative and the party with the most elected representatives forms the government. The leader of that party becomes the Premier. It's the same at the federal level except the leader is the Prime Minister. In some provinces (example: Saskatchewan) the members are called MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly). In other provinces (example: Ontario) the members are called MPPs (Member of Provincial Parliament). Federally the members are MPs (Member of Parliament).

Both the federal and provincial government's heads are the Crown (King Chuck). A the federal level he is represented by the Governor General. At the provincial level the Lieutenant Governor .

Once again I know I sound dumb right now.

If I'm following.....You vote for Province reps the same way we do State reps. Like for me State reps only go to Tallahassee and can only vote on laws that would apply to Florida. And once all that Province voting is done whatever Province party has the most reps gets to appoint a Premier? So you don't directly vote for a Premier (aka governor)?

Correct. We don't vote for a Prime Minister or a Premier. Tough the vote for our rep is also a vote for who we like better. Local issues rarely figure into to many ridings voting.

So I saw "Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning". I saw one of the first ones with Tom Cruise and one maybe 5 or 6 years ago with my wife. But I did not see "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning" which was the direct sequel to this one. Before I continue, I will likely inadvertently spoil something in the coming review so if you are concerned about spoilers, stop reading now. I didn't need to as they used flash backs not just to the last movie but it looked like all movies in the series which all seemed to be tied in some fashion to this plot.

The movie was fast paced and quite enjoyable but it was a complete crock. There is absolutely no way that most of this could have actually happened even stretching the bounds of suspended disbelief. For me this meant that I was not engrossed in it as I could be and many a time I said (as did my son) "Ya, right". But it was nice and cool and overall I enjoyed it.

I usually don't go on a Tuesday because it is half price night and always crowded. And I used free movie coupons anyways which always feels like I get less of a bargain on Tuesdays. Today is was crowded but I still enjoyed it. I got my moneys worth.

I've watched all the other Mission Impossible movies and know they're best on the big screen, but I'll likely wait until it streams later.

A year or 2 ago, Mrs. Scotch did the audio book for Lessons in Chemistry. I listened to much of it when we visited our cousins in Vermont. So now we're watching the AppleTV+ series starring Brie Larson, which - like the book - is both excellent and disturbing. It takes place in the 1950s, and most of the people - especially men - are flaming assholes. I don't know how accurately it depicts the sexism of the day, but it's suffocating. The overall story is interesting and entertaining, though.
