So we found a new TV series to watch, since The Morning Show and Dead to Me are both done for now. Someone told Mrs Scotch about Atypical with Michael Rappaport and Jennifer Jason Leigh, which started airing in 2017. It's about a family with a kid who has Asperger's is autistic is on the spectrum. We're not usually into shows about kids, and we also don't care much about making ourselves feel good because we're watching an "enlightened" show. So I was reluctant, and while we both thought the 1st episode was OK, it also focused a lot on the special kid. I assumed we were going to pass on it, but a couple of nights later the wife is flipping through the channels, because nothing's on. She dials-up Atypical again, the 2nd episode is good, we watch another, and get hooked. I think now we're halfway through the 1st season, and it's really well-written and very entertaining. They have a good story line for each of the major (and minor) characters. Anyone else watching this?

Interesting. I watched a British show a while ago with basically the same premise. I really only gave it a chance because it had my first Doctor in it...Christopher Eccleston. It's called The A Word. It turned out to be pretty good and I saw it through.

We passed on it for the same enlightened/pandering element.
That's fine, but we found that after a few episodes, it was no longer prominent at all (the sense of enlightened pandering). It just seems like a well-written show where every character has a mess of flaws, and it's really interesting to see how things move along. Also, the quirks of the autistic kid - brutal honesty, social immaturity, geeky interests - is entertaining, and as an engineer, I can relate to some of it.

I trust you that it turned out to be good. I might even really like it. I still doubt I'll give it a try though.
There's too many other things that I keep thinking that I should watch. I should make a list of them.

I've been watching a British comedy from 2012 called bad education. It's on Netflix about a doofus teacher and his awful class. The first season was ok but it gets better as it goes. Season 2 and 3 are progressively better. It's really stupid but also fun.

I enjoy a well-made music documentary. I watched 3 this weekend:

Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Amazon Prime. 4 hours long, but it was a great film. I'd watch it again someday.

Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band. Hulu. Top notch film also.

Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why is Everybody Talkin'). Free on Tubi app. That guy Nilsson was an extremely talented vocalist/songwriter/musician before drugs and alcohol messed him up. He was a world class party animal too.

We watched the Legends of Laurel Canyon doc on HBO. It was pretty good.
It was all about the neighborhood in LA that had a ton of musicians living. CSN, Zappa, the Doors, Monkeys, and on and on.

I do recommend it.
Great stories, and great to see how they all intermingled.
Now I know why I confuse some Jackson Browne and Eagles songs.

LOST is free on IMDb TV with ads and since it's owned by Amazon it's nicely integrated into Prime. I've made the bad decision to watch it again. I know the ending sucks but the first few seasons are pretty good if I remember correctly. The ads aren't that bad either. They run about 4 ad breaks per episode and they vary from 15 to 90 seconds. We'll see how far I get. I'm currently on episode 4.

My very exciting Saturday night consists of me watching LOST on my computer and really bad movies on TNT. Right now they are playing Justice League. Wow this movie, even in mute, is terrible.

Next up is San Andres. I am assuming it will be another awful movie but at least it has The Rock as it's star. That guy has grown on me over the years.

Oh and I couldn't get through Birth of a Nation after weeks of trying but I've managed to watch 15 episodes of LOST in about 24 hours. Haha.

I am deep into LOST now. s03e04. I remember some of the big plot points but most of the details are new again to me.

In the Hollywood is out of ideas thread, memebag had referenced the above link. I was at 72 movies at the time. I've been going out my way to see the others. I'm now at 91 movies seen, with 9 left to go.

Which brings me to.... The Birth of a Nation. Koop, you struggled with this one, right? I'm not tempted at all to see this long movie, but I guess I'll need to watch it.

The Civil War scenes are really well done, even by today's standards. That's about 40 mins in. After that I couldn't get through the rest. Maybe I'll try again some time.

Friends of ours setup an outdoor movie theater, and they've been showing screenings of Hamilton on Disney+. We were invited to the 2nd screening, it was a really fun evening. They even provided gift baskets and reservation cards. And the movie was awesome.
