I loved listening to the Cleveland segment. I've never heard that. Hell, I didn't have him in my market until after his peak, (grew up near Indianapolis, and he never caught on there, and didn't come until 97 or 98 anyway) so a lot of this stuff is new to me, except for the stuff talked about in the books.
I remember it well since I was in Cleveland and a listener at the time of the funeral. WMMS was the big dog in town since the mid-1970s, until Howard showed up. They haven't recovered from their fall from #1 to this day.
WNCX paid a lot of money for the stern show but it turned out being a big payoff in the end.
The good part for Howard: competing radio station employed the person who did the damage, judges getting soft and giving the guy a smack on the hands while neglecting to investigate his bosses at the station. A lot of work and planning to be working alone without folks WMMS knowing about the plans.
