I agree. I told a friend about it when the first pictures surfaced, he has Sirius in his car, and his first question was: "Is there a Sirius one??"
Even still, it seems the ease of installation and setup, and the ability to play your personal playlist, internet radio, slacker/pandora or whatever other audio entertainment available with the I-Phone/I-pod touch far outweighs having to switch over to XM. I will be highly recommending this product to my Apple aficionado friends. Thanks for the reviews!

i REALLY want the skydock. but it sucks that its XM based. i have had sirius since before howard came over, listen to him daily, so i would have to pay the extra $3 a month to get the best of sirius package too.
i know, its $3. but wasnt it in the terms of the merger were that all future devices would support both services AND that there would be no pricing increase?

When I do my summer trip in a rental, I have my SL2 and I really enjoy the pause & rewind functionallity. I miss it in my own car with the built in XM radio.

I have an SL-2 and life membership... If next year when my nextel service is up and I switch over to an I-phone does this Iphone/app count towards my 2nd radio and a 75$ charge applied to the transfer....
Or does a 75$ charge go towards the sky-dock???
Or none none of the above ( lifers cant have 2 radios at 1 time )???

This is an XM radio with an XM subscription. But by the time the 1 year has passed, they may have merged the accounting system to allow it as a family sub.

I setup yet another SkyDock with a subscription that I pay for. This one I'm probably going to lend around to a few people I know. This product has me so excited it's got to be shared. The Easee of setup and use truly makes this more Plug and Play than the old Plug and Play radios with the strong FM.
If you are contemplating it. Then get it. XM SkyDock.

I know one thing, I'm getting a touch soon and right after I get the touch, I'm going to order me a skydock and dump my Sirius Stratus receiver, so much easier to transfer between my truck and my mom's SUV. Also one question. say if you are playing podcasts or music on your ipod does it go thru the FM as well? if so then this is a win win no matter what happens. although one would hope it results in higher subscription numbers.

I think had it only worked for Sirius there would have been those on the XM side feeling the same way.
The bottom line is that Sirius XM are going to continue to run these services separately because of the money. This is also why they won't combine the billing systems anytime soon. I am sure they have done the math and they don't feel combining the billing/activation system is in their best financial interest. We know doing that is certainly in our best financial interest as we'd be able to add secondaries from either side of the service regardless of which service was our primary. But right now they are making money off Howard by forcing those on the XM side to pay more and also with the BOS as well. Money, Money, Money!
For me the Skydock being XM is great, because I was already an XM sub; when the services combined, I felt XM had the better system in terms of reception. I then canceled my Sirius sub and sold my SL2 and all other Sirius equipment that I had. I am just glad that they are continuing to provide new cool equipment for the XM side. Maybe at some point if this does well they will create one for the Sirius side too. I see no reason why they wouldn't or couldn't.

Yes that was covered in the review and also in the discussion! It is first a basic iPhone/iPhone Touch dock, so it will work with anything that is on device and broadcast it via FM or Audio-out.
I have used mine a great deal today and I think it just totally ROCKS!

You can control the FM modulator via Skydock, then return to your iPod controls for playing whatever you like.

Until then, I would say, your sentiments reflect my thoughts as well...
Maybe a goog android app. will be developed in the mean time for siri subs...
And one more thing- I may be new to this satelite radio service stuff but I dont think it will ultimately be in the best interest of this newly merged Siri/Xm company to continue segregating services and hardware any longer...

This company was allowed to merge in the best interest of consumers and should complete the merging to simplify, comprehension and fairness, especially when incorporating new outside technology with satelite radio service...

sweet I must have missed that part of the disco. well I got my skydock app downloaded onto my itunes, and I don't even have the touch yet! that is cool that it would do that. Counting down the days till I get it now! nothing against sirius, but with them not being able to get MLB games even thru best of XM is a real downer. whereas with best of sirius I get NFL and Nascar, so i'll go that route.

This is true, but even without a subscription you can go into the Skydock App and add or change frequencies you wish it to broadcast on.
Hopefully it will merge...

I don't see the billing and activation systems merging until such time as they merge the spectrum under one system. Financially I think they see this as the wrong move because it would lower the amount of income they have coming in. Clearly a merged billing and activation system would be best for consumers, but at this point not best for Sirius XM's bottom line. That is the reality of it rather we like it or not!

They're not.
The satellites broadcast 2 different types of signals that require different chipsets to decode. A radio has to have both sets (like the MiRGE) to be able to offer both services.
