No – but it's odd that two major wildfires on the same day would be caused by a burning car. Havilah is – or was – an unincorporated community of around 250 people in the mountains northeast of Bakersfield. The Park Fire began in Bidwell Park, which spans 3,670 acres from Downtown Chico into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. That fire has now burned 579 square miles and destroyed 109 structures.

I like Allan Sherman's parody Harvey & Sheila, recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl July 19, 1963. He is accompanied by the 104-piece Hollywood Bowl Orchestra & Chorus. !תהנה

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Wildfires discussion.

Coincidentally, Mrs. Scotch has a nearly identical song she sings for these guys

That's Harper and Schaefer, who stay with us twice a year. The song is sung to Hava Nagilah. It goes something like

Harper and Schaefer
Harper and Schaefer
Harper and Schaefer
are the best dogs.

Schaefer's the bigger one,
Harper's the smaller one.
Harper and Schaefer
are the best dogs.

And then sometimes she just wings it with something off the top of her head.

According to U.S. Forest Service data, "Nearly 85% of wildfires in the United States are caused by humans. Human-caused fires result from campfires left unattended, the burning of debris, equipment use and malfunctions, negligently discarded cigarettes and intentional acts of arson." The Nixon fire, which has now burned more than eight square miles, was caused by equipment malfunction, namely, a faulty electrical panel.

Hopefully 98 and his home are OK.
It's pretty insane out there.

I figured that if he was available, he would reply with a video like usual.
I thought that the Arthur Brown song would sum it all up, but I didn't have time to look up any trivia for it.

To borrow a line from Groucho, "Any mail for me while I was gone?" Because of strong winds (with gusts up to 90 MPH) and extreme risk of fire, on Tuesday evening SoCal Edison and the DWP shut off electricity to more than 350,000 homes in parts of Glendale and other nearby cities. Yesterday there was very little wind but the power remained off. Today, Friday, power was finally restored in mid-afternoon. Huzzah!

The Eaton Canyon fire in the northern part of Altadena and Pasadena is eight miles northeast of me. Yesterday so much ash was falling, it looked like snow! That fire has now left six people dead and burned almost 22 square miles and is only 3% contained.
