What would make Slacker better?

Yeah I think the whole ideal is keep it simple stupid! When you start with multiple button pushes for ratings etc, that just takes it out of the realm of being a Slacker portable.

You could keep the portable as is and offer more ratings only online.

Zactly!
No firmware upgrade would be even needed that way.

No, but the whole system would have to redesigned to support what you are suggesting. I do agree the Favorite or Ban is a little lean on giving a channel much direction. An Artist/Song is really in or OUT) The web based suggestion works for me, but I don't foresee this happening anytime soon, but it is a good suggestion.

Big yes for WABC770 who mentioned the Classical category, that's my only major complaint about Slacker is the Classical Content is sorely lacking. For as many Classical Categories there are, there should be much more. I'd like an all Opera Channel, An all Guitar Concerto channel. A 'Classical Thunder' type channel that plays marches and the more upbeat stuff (that last one would ROCK!) If I knew all the composers and works, I'd make one myself, but my knowledge is more limited than my enjoyment.

A feature I would like is a easier way to change stations.

Holding the >> or << button for... 1-2 seconds advances to the next or previous station loaded in your slacker would rule.

Ditto That!

But Jim has already said he doesn't expect to see this happen on the G2. They felt that to many users would have issues with holding down the back key. I disagree, but it sort of like they also don't feel that when USB power is applied that the device should auto-play. Much of this has to do with them having to pay for each song that is listened too. They felt too many people would have devices playing that weren't even listening to them.

Indeed, I tried making one. It went nowhere fast. If they can find enuf
diversity in hip-hop to come up with *SIX* channels, then 3 for Classical
is a joke. [And movie scores isn't even really Classical.]

If they'd divide it up ala AOL Radio with all eras and various styles included,
they'd really be cookin', tho the library doesn't seem to be much deeper than
a heaping helping of 'Classical's Greatest Hits' type cds.
And lots of Mantovani.

One more improvement -- I wish my G1 could bookmark/FF library tracks.
Not user friendly for long radio podcasts.

I really dont have too many complaints. I've seen a few other great ideas floating around for the G2. One that I particularly like is the "songs left until refresh needed". It would display a % or number of actual songs left before you begin to hear repeated music. The DJ option or a shameless Slacker ad in between a few songs isnt a big deal to me. In a perfect world, I could do the DJ talk and record it to play in between certain songs with my custom station name etc. With every update the portable seems to get better and better. My setup in the car is perfect and its nearly as simple as my XM Roady was.

I will say, its nice having a service that improves things. Its unfortunate that SATRAD didnt have that approach.
