Today's Leno/Stuttering John Rant

I think the mods show remarkable restraint...but how do you legislate against jerkoff-itude? The idea some folks have that anyone cares to hear steady complaining about something you opt to pay for is beyond retarded.

And the idea that some folks MUST comment on other's complaints rather than simply ignore those threads is beyond retarded as well. There is nothing in the forum rules about complaining. Bitching is part of normal, free and open speech. If you don't care to hear it, don't respond to it. Not responding does not include hoping into a thread 3 pages in and trying to jack it with giant jpgs or snide remarks. Its pretty simple, and most of the posters here save for two or three have no problem giving that basic courtesy.

"Jerkoff-itude"? Is that necessary? Its stuff like that that just begs a flame, and then the problem starts. And go ahead and post a "whaaaa!" picture or whatever other stupid shit passes for a rebuttal on the internet. I'm not hiding behind anyone; I'd love to be able to tear into people, but that's not allowed here.

This place doesn't need new rules, or more rules, it just needs to enforce the ones its got. Really, if you put a collar on just one or two posters (as it appears they have threatened to do, and were ignored), all this shit would go away in a day.
 
I don't totally disagree with you...but I'll never understand why pissing and moaning to anonymous people about one's own decisions is satisfying.

OK.. I don't want to beat a dead horse but let me whack away again. Of course, there is no arguing with what makes you laugh and what you enjoy but didn't you think Howard's treatment of John was a bit shabby? John was a loyal worker for Howard and a reliable informant. Beth liked John's wife and Howard sometimes treated John as a social friend. Most people agree that leaving for the Leno job was a no-brainer. And Howard always said he wished John well and had nothing against him. Yet he went on for about 20 minutes on what a loser no-talent John was in every area... announcing, writing and bits and how he was given nothing to do on the Leno show... And that he would probably contintue to be employed by Leno on the new show just kind of confined to the back stage areas. And Gary, Artie, Robin and Fred joined in the general disparagement of John. No one dared to say a good thing about him. And I thought Artie and Gary considered themsleves friends of John. End of dead horse beating.
 
I can't get over the fact the STUTTERING JOHN has a steady gig on a network show...ugh, Johnny has to be rolling over in his grave.

What's your point... that the moderators should adopt the Mutt approach and ban people who do steady complaining about something they opt to pay for?

When I see a thread that does not interest me, I don't open it. When I open a thread and read a different opinion then mine... postive or negative.. I read it with interest...

I just don't get the banning and threatening to ban mentality.... including as it applied to the posters whose shtick is insulting other posters. Who cares? You can read over the post in 3 seconds.. click out of the HS forum world and back into the real world.. no harm done.

I don't want anyone banned...just don't get the fascination with bitching about a pay service is all.

Let's face it, we're all jerkoffs for spending any time on an internet message board discussing a radio show. Even worse is to be unhappy about it.

I disagree with the first part ... we get it... Howard is a phenomenon... worth spending some time on..... Nothing to regret.... But being unhappy about some harsh words or comments you don't like is sort of a waste of time.
 
I think anyone who spends time posting harsh comments about a radio show they choose to pay for deserves to be scorned and needs to have their head examined.

I think negative comments are acceptable on here, but when people's posts are overwhelmingly negative, that's a problem. It's okay to have a legitimate gripe about the show, but say it intelligently. We are fans of the show, but that doesn't mean we love absolutely everything about it. This forum is for us to trade opinions intelligently and respectfully, and personal attacks just clutter the place up and make it pointless.

But is it a problem so terrible that it must be addressed by moderators? If the moderators get into theatening to ban posters because their posts are overwhelmingly negative.. then you get Mutt-like moderators who starts applying their subjective opinions about who is overwhelmingly negative. In my opinion, the less censorship we have here the better.

Just because he's their friend doesn't mean they have to whitewash their opinions. Like when they all told Rev. Bob that Danny Bonadouche was going to kick his ass. Doesn't mean they don't like him, but they can look at the situation objectively.

All that stuff is pretty much true about John's job. It's not disparaging John really. He can't announce and often doesn't. he's as much the Tonight Show announcer as George is the Stern Show announcer. The writers who were hired for that job didn't want John writing. Howard didn't say his writing sucked, they just didn't want his help. And as for bits, well, those speak for themselves...

Personally, I think Jay and/or whoever came up with the idea of John, thought they were going to get themselves a little piece of the Stern Show which would draw in those listeners but after Howard ripped him a new one, he had to still use John but not in the way they had hoped. The few times I've watched it, it seems that gay intern guy (original) gets more play than John.

And none of this should matter anyway because according to Jay, Howard is irrelevant...

This keeps getting repeated by Howard but it is not what Leno said. He said that he doesn't hear truck drivers and cab drivers and such talking about Howard as much as he did before and he thought this so because the Sirius audience is so much smaller. Big big difference. You can be relevant and not heard as widely. I think even Howard will concede that the smaller audience makes it harder for him to get good guests. Yesterday Gary said that he does not want to do a birthday show because he knows Howard expects A List guests.

I know you have a point about guests, but bringing this up on the day after they have a Beatle in the studio is like the time Al Gore had the NYC Global Warming Summit on the coldest day in 150 years. ;)
