I've been married for 22 years. I usually know the pitfalls and traps. Well, I missed one.
A bit of background. Back when we were engaged and planning her move to Canada and our wedding we were dealing with immigration. We had a big church wedding planned in August with both families coming in to see, etc. Our immigration consultant suggested we get legally married sooner to help with the immigration processing (a waste of time in hindsight -- didn't help at all). So we got married at City Hall. I had one friend, she had one friend as witnesses. The date was memorable as there was cellphone outage so I had no cell phone and my pregnant wife unfamiliar with Toronto was trying to meet me at City Hall over my lunch break from work to get legally married. It's a date which is marked in my calendar but in the 22 years I have been married, we have never celebrated on this date -- always the August date.
So this year, my wife asks me why I was doing something with my son on our anniversary. I said no, the date is clear. We haven't chosen an activity yet. Turns out she was talking about our July date. I said we never celebrate that one. She goes on about how it may be her last, etc. and I always talk to her about it. I don't remember once in those 22 years talking to her about it. When we got married we agreed this date was for immigration only and we were going to ignore it and do only the August date.
Women are completely irrational. Now I guess the smart thing to do is buy flowers and a card for this date. But the idiot in my mind is telling me I should stand on principle. That idiot is primarily responsible for me being single for 38 years so not sure why I even listen to him.
