I think they are still holding out for a singer......

Man, I keep stalking my new guitar on the internets. I think mid to late June is going to take forever. We're supposed to play a party in July with a girl that used to sing with a couple of the guys back in the 80's, so I picked up Stop Dragging Me Heart Around, about to pick up some Pretenders, and still looking for some other chick songs, but it hasn't been enough of a distraction.
If you can learn 'Middle of the Road' you'll be my hero!

I've been working on power chords, Barre Chords (since they're much easier to play now) and some beginning blues scales on the 5th Fret.

I've noticed that I play the guitar better standing up than sitting down, even though the acoustic is traditionally a sit-down instrument. It seems like I have more range of motion when standing. Weird!

Maybe a classical is a sit-down but not the good ol' steel string. You play that bad boy however it feels best, brother.

I've successfully set up my bass. Neck is great, intonation was good enough that I didn't need to fool with it (a guitar is never in tune--some notes are just less out of tune than others), and I set the action to 6/64 on the E and 5/64 on the G. Just gotta add some super glue to the A string nut slot to remove a little buzz and she'll be right as the rain. :)

Do I get to wear a cape? I think I'd look good in a cape......

Standing is usually more comfortable for me too, but like Casual said, be comfortable when you play.

That's what Mrs. Hec...meh. Screw it. That's what--stop it, Casual! Hey, that's--

God dammit.

I also adjusted the angle of my pickups. I had a point. That was it. The A string is good. Some super glue and baking soda filled the slot just enough to remove 99 percent of the fret buzz. So, short of swapping out parts (that's what...son of a bitch) or messing with the wiring, I'm pretty comfortable with the bass at the moment.

I doubt if I will ever own a guitar, but this is the closes I will ever get to play with one. The guitar feature in Garageband for the iPhone and iPad.

We had kind of a rough jam session last night. For me, anyway. I was dog tired and couldn't remember shiite. We couldn't figure out how this one song went from the sheet music--it has two codas and repeats, and that was confusing us. I think the guys had fun, though. One of them brought his '57 Gibson J45 sunburst. What a sound...

I guess the answer is a) more sleep for me and b) practice the damn song. (It's "Rawhide" by Link Wray)

We had practice last night too. Same problems. Tired as hell (I think everybody was), and we were farking up all kinds of simple simple stuff. Nobody had a $5000 Vintage Gibson acoustic though. Our lead guy has a PRS FROM 95 that's was in that price range when he bought it.

The difference is that the PRS is probably declining in value, where the Gibby is still growing over all of these years. I mean, come on, a 1957 acoustic that is still appreciating, sounds killer, and (I assume) still plays great is a quality instrument? My $100 JC Penny acoustic that I got back in 1980 never played well or sounded great, and has recently delaminated. Time, humidity changes, and 100 lbs of string tension are brutal on acoustics.

Yeah, it played great. I've observed that *some* electrics appreciate: almost anything by Fender, Japanese-made guitars from the '70s...not much else. That flying V the kid down the street bought in '87 and covered with stickers was, and is, probably junk.

Band ad on CL. I know that HecticArt and Jon are a little lacking in the junk department, so this may be an opportunity they can't pass up:

Playing in the nude

"Nudist Trance Polka-Core Band.
Must be willing to be committed. I'm an easy-going guy (and the largest member of the band) who had to unfortunately fire the bass player, guitar player, drummer, horn section, accordionist, and singer because they lacked dedication to the project (and some were larger than me).
No wanna-bees, druggies, drinkers, straight-edges, or teetotalers.
The band name is Nice Driveway and our agent is currently booking us in the regional bar mitzvah circuit (we don't play bat mitzvahs -that would be just wrong).
If you're ready to help take Buffalo's premiere Nudist Trance Polka-Core band, Nice Driveway, to the next level then hit me up -send song samples, resume, three references, stool sample, 8x10 full-frontal glossy (the glossier the better), etc. MUST HAVE THE LOOK (but must not be larger than me)."
