Thanks ya'll. his new teacher has been a real blessing, he has really helped him stretch out and learn new things. I think it's funny about 3/4 of the way, he tells him to "show off".

That's what Mrs. Hectic tells me about 3/4 of the way through, too.

Seriously, back on topic--a good teacher is so important, especially for kids. I'm self-taught from the internet but that's because I'm old, poor and unteachable. :)

That's what Mrs Hectic said! ......... Wait.......awe man.......

I've actually thought about taking lessons again. Guitar...not the other thing... Theory and helping me unlearn some of my bad habits would be easier for me to learn with a teacher than on line.

Nah, you can learn theory from a book. Read it and then play it. I can send you two good pdfs from justinguitar.com: "Practical Music Theory" and "The Chord Construction Guide."

And this is what I think of "bad habits":

Also, our jam met tonight. I was on bass, with the experienced player on lead electric guitar and the inexperienced player on acoustic rhythm. We ran through "Looking Out My Back Door" a few times and then some slow 12-bar blues progressions. I started out playing mainly root notes but in the blues stuff I threw in some melodic bass lines with roots, fifths and flat sevenths. Good stuff.

His horn is crooked.

Slappa da bass! You'll be touring in no time.

I think they are still holding out for a singer......

Man, I keep stalking my new guitar on the internets. I think mid to late June is going to take forever. We're supposed to play a party in July with a girl that used to sing with a couple of the guys back in the 80's, so I picked up Stop Dragging Me Heart Around, about to pick up some Pretenders, and still looking for some other chick songs, but it hasn't been enough of a distraction.

That must be hard, to have just bought that bad boy and then have to wait two months. I couldn't do that. I'm way too impulsive. Amazon Prime two-day is plenty long for me.

I haven't paid for it yet. The shop said they would order it for me with no obligation. I'll buy it unless it's broken in shipping though. I still want my local shop to make a few bucks off of it, so I wouldn't buy on line. I'm antsy though. Damn.

I try to buy local...of my four guitars, two are local, one is Amazon and one was bought from another player on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. Even though I didn't buy my bass locally, I plan to buy my bass amp (some day) from the local Fender guys. I may have them set up my bass too, but I may also do it myself so I'll learn. Probably the latter...

I actually got (get) my new axe for less locally than on line. I played what they had in stock, said it was close to what I was looking for, and then came back to him and showed him which one I wanted that I found on line. Then I just asked what price he could get it for.

You should be able to adjust the setup on your bass yourself. It's easier than a 6 string. Take your time, only sand and file a little bit at a time.

That's cool. Good dealer.

And go easy on the blowtorch. It's a tone killer.
