The Combined Decades Channels!

I like Casey but when it played on XM, did they only display the name of the show and never attempt to put the names of songs on the PDT? That's what happened when they played it on the seventies channel. At least the Dees show would try by squeezing in the artist and song title on line (dumb...you can use both and flash the Dees promo!). If so, waay to cheap out! I'm hoping they figure out the PDT thing because Sirius was much better about changing the display very often. If XM isn't, TS cause Sirius bought you out!
 
On XM, they put "AT40-..." with the month and year of the countdown on the Artist line. They'd cram title and artist on the Title line. Considering there was a 16 character maximum per line, it was only somewhat helpful in many cases.

That is what it looked like in my wife's Acura XM radio. Maybe some other XM radios had additional display capabilities.

They do. Newer non-OEM receivers have a secondary display.

When they first started it on the 70s they would put the artist/song in the artist/title spot and put the AT40 info in the extended spot. They stopped doing that (probably too much work or took to long to digitize).
 
I think of all the decade channels (50's - 80's), the 50's channel has changed the most since the channel merger. The playlist is so much deeper than before. I'd like to see deedee's opinion of it.

I find the 70's channel has changed the least. It was a good channel to begin with. :)

Noticeable changes on the 60's and 80's as well. I think it's all for the best. The playlists needed a shot in the arm.
 
I'll second what Aaron said. I think one of the things they got right for sure was the decades channels. People will bicker about the dance and rock, but in general, I'm happy overall with the combined lineup. There's almost always something on that I'll want to hear. For other stuff, or stuff I want to hear "now", I can always check out other outlets.
 
I was listening to one of my old orhan recordings of the Big80s these last couple of days and I noticed that none of the songs I was hearing are mainstays on the new 80s on 8 or the old XM version. Its like they said any of the hits of the Big80s would not be played. I didn't notice it until I was listening to this 6 hour programming block which of course contains almost the entire Big80s playlist. I was kind of hoping for a middle ground -- an expanded playlist but still filled (or at least represented) with recognisable good hits.

I noticed the same thing....I used to listen to Big 80s quite a bit and haven't heard a lot of those songs on the new channel. I welcome the variety, but I would also like to have some of the other songs that big 80s used to play thrown in as well.
 
The 80's channel is MUCH better now. I'll give one example. I have not heard Voices Carry or an overplaying of all Van Halen lately. It's nice to hear songs that I do not recall hearing when it was the Big 80's. There were some songs that I never heard before on the Big 80's. I like the change.
 
I can't stand what they did to Sirius Gold & 60's Vibrations. While the Sirius playlists may have been a bit too limited, XM's are way too deep. And all of the DJs they brought over on 6 are just awful. They spend too much time yapping and not playing music, and then they play jingles over the music when they do play it. Just play the music and do nothing else, at least during drive time.

On the other hand, having a 90s channel and Pop 2k in addition to keeping the Pulse is very nice.

It would seem to be a mixture on a channel by channel basis. 80s is definitly XM as they lost they years. 70s is Sirius. I would guess that 1st Wave and Alt Nation would be Sirius. I would also guess XM for ClassicRewind and ClassicVinyl.

I disagree, always liked 60's on 6 better than 60's Vibrations -- both in their attempt to somewhat re-create what AM radio sounded like back then, and in the depth of the playlist.

I remember when I first started listening to 60s on 6. Phlash always said they had just about every song from the 60s on file & could play them...:)
 
I think I am in the minority in thinking the 70's channel has gotten worse. I liked it when it was Sirius 70's. For one they seem to play more 70's rock now. Don't we already have a classic rock station for this stuff. Also they seem to be playing more obscure songs from 70's artists that I haven't heard before. I have yet to hear Jukebox From Hell that Sirius 70's had. I like that. Also I liked Sirius 70's because they played more of the hits from the 70's. Stuff from Raydio, Orleans, Starland Vocal Band, Climax Blues Band, Exile, etc. that I just don't seem to hear as much or even at all on 70's on 7.

This used to be one of my favorite channels. Now I barely turn it on.

I too am enjoying 60's on 6 much better than 60's Vibrations. If someone gets tired of the DJ's they can just change the channel for a while.
 
The combined decades channels are much, much better than previously. I had grown pretty bored with Sirius decades channels, they were so predictable and stale. Now with these new playlist, you never know what to expect and that is as it should be.
