Here is an all-too-short documentary about David Mason. On August 23, 1966, Mason played a piccolo trumpet – it's tuned one octave higher than a regular trumpet – during a performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 In F Major broadcast on BBC Television. Paul McCartney was watching. Paul was impressed. Paul hired Mason to play on the Beatles' Penny Lane.
Early US promo copies of Penny Lane included a seven-note piccolo trumpet coda. The official single release of the record did not include it. The original version finally appeared on the 1980 Rarities album.

Broadcaster/journalist Suresh Joshi wrote and produced this song for the documentary film East Meets West. It was recorded at Trident Studios in London and features George Harrison on guitar and Ringo Starr on drums. The lead singer is Aashish Khan.

Wesley Stace, a British singer/songwriter, has released 26 albums, five under his own name and 21 as "John Wesley Harding." He took the name from the title of a 1968 Bob Dylan album. Today on SiriusXM's Underground Garage channel, Chris Carter played When The Beatles Hit America, a song from 1990 which predicts the Beatles will get back together in 1993. A very peculiar song – but a nice fantasy!

Find My Way appeared on Paul's 2020 CD McCartney III. I watched the video only once. The deepfake Paul was very creepy. But I have the CD. The remix version of the song is much better. "You never used to be afraid of days like these, but now you’re overwhelmed by your anxieties." I assume that was a reference to COVID.
Strange. The main actors in that are Fred Armisen and Vanessa Bayer from SNL (and Portlandia). The credits run as long as the video.
Helen Shapiro began recording at age 14. Her song Walkin' Back To Happiness was on the Hot 100 for only one week in 1961 but was a number-one hit in the UK. It was one of five top-ten British hits she had in 1961-62. Here she is, at age 17, serenading three of the Beatles with her 1963 hit Look Who It Is on an episode of BBC-TV's Ready, Steady, Go! The lyrics were written by Mike Hawker, who also wrote Walkin' Back To Happiness and Dusty Springfield's I Only Want To Be With You.

Yeah, some of these would certainly be in MY top 40. It just goes to show why the Beatles are on that pedestal; they have an endless list of great songs, all crammed into a 6 year period.
Six years?! I didn't realize it was that short of a time. I see it now that you say it, but I never realized it. That's unreal!!
Yeah, their first releases were in 1963, but I think as far as the US, they hit here in '64 (I'm sure someone will correct me). And although Let It Be was released in 1970, it was recorded before the Abbey Road sessions, which got released in '69. So I consider their years of activity (for the US market) to be 64-69. So yes, that's an insane number of hit songs to create in that amount of time.

Especially when you think about the clean-cut boys from Liverpool that showed up on black and white television in 1964, and then look at how quickly they embraced the full-on technicolor lifestyle of their later albums.

The first Beatles singles released in the United States were Please Please Me/Ask Me Why (Vee Jay 498, February 7 1963), From Me To You/Thank You Girl (Vee Jay 522, May 6 1963) and She Loves You/I'll Get You (Swan 4152, September 16 1963). Pasadena top-40 station KRLA was one of the few stations that played From Me To You. It debuted at #46 on their July 14 Tunedex survey. Four weeks later it was #32. It dropped to #39 the following week. Nationally the song stalled at #116 in August.
I Want To Hold Your Hand (Capitol 5112, December 26 1963) became the Beatles' first US hit, spending seven weeks at number one in February-March 1964. The song debuted at number one on both the KRLA Tunedex and the KFWB Fabulous Forty. It was number one for siz weeks on KRLA and 11 weeks on KFWB.
