Sundials in most areas will not be correct on Sunday...

I prefer Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time. I don't like the twice-a-year time changes.

The people who ask this question all live in the south. Up here in the north, if we stayed on DST year-round, then in December and January, sunrise would be at 8:15 am. That just doesn't work.

It's not that hard to shift an hour. The whole country is broken into different time zones, and we travel from one to another all the time. Just man-up and do it. For godsakes, cell phones change the time for you.

It takes me only a couple of minutes to change the clocks but it takes my poor lil' body several weeks to adjust, especially when we go from daylight saving time back to standard time. On November 2, 2025, why can't we turn the clock back 30 minutes and then just leave it? No more time changes. A fine idea! World War I is over. We no longer need to conserve heating oil for the war effort.

The concept that DST saves energy was disproven years ago, because of the high demand of A/C cooling for businesses. So that's not a factor.

But changing the time by 30 minutes will most certainly fuck us all up, especially in relation to the rest of the world. So good luck with that.

I don't mind the time change. But if we need to get rid of it, DST all year. I don't give a rats ass about daylight in the morning. It is depressing when it is dark at 5. And I think I live further north than you (although the us border does go north as it goes east so maybe not).

More daylight in the evening is needed.
There's more things that need to be done, or are worth doing, outside after work in the summer, and nobody needs the extra morning light during the winter months.

Whenever you start an argument with "nobody", that's a sure sign you're in trouble.

There's kids walking to school, or waiting for the bus. People driving to work, who are trying not to hit the kids. And everyone else who starts work early or drives to work early expects daylight, not nighttime.

Yeah, it sucks when it gets dark at 4 pm in the winter. But that's not because of time zones, it's because it's winter.

You could always move to SK. There it is standard time all the time. In the winter the sun sets at 4:30PM and rises about 9:30AM. You get darkness in the morning and the evening. But in the summer nights are only 7 hours long so it kind of cancels out I guess. The time doesn't change and they call it standard time but the timezone change between mountain and central would cut SK in half if it was allowed to so half of the province is really on daylight time all year long.

I’m not in trouble with anything. (As far as you know…)
It‘s always going to be a bit dark for part of the winter mornings.
Throw some reflective coats on those little monsters and teach em to dodge and weave!

Getting dark at 4:00 in the winter is fine, because it’s winter.
Getting dark early in summer sucks. There are things that need to be done outside after work that need daylight. Yard work, house work, ball-games, grilling, drinking on patios, and on and on.

Kids are going to be outside going to or from school in the dark, or playing in the neighborhood, or something when it’s not 100% proper light out. They shouldn’t be the crutch for picking which standard we keep.

I'm not against transitioning to DST in the spring (like we just did). I'm advocating for leaving the system we have, which has us springing ahead and falling back. It's 2 fucking times a year, and it occurs over a weekend. I just don't understand why everyone is so triggered about it.

I support staying on standard time all year. These time changes mess up my sleep and appetite rhythms and takes more than a week to get used to the new time.

I am like scotch. First choice is current system. HOWEVER, if we do get rid of one, we should get rid of standard time and go daylight all year long.

On December 16, 2024, US News & World Report noted that 140 nations have tried daylight saving time but only half that number have kept it:

"While most of Europe still resets its clocks twice a year, the countries that don't include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Iceland, Russia and Turkey. Many other countries have gotten rid of the practice in recent years, with some citing health concerns as a primary reason to avoid resetting the clocks. Azerbaijan, Iran, Jordan, Namibia, Russia, Samoa, Syria, Turkey and Uruguay have all abolished the practice. Mexico's Congress voted in 2022 to stop adjusting its clocks but several cities, including many near the U.S. border, were exempted."

I won't dispute your experiences, but for me, I forgot about the time change by lunchtime. It's like when you travel to a different time zone. There's a few hours of adjustment, and then you're all set.

It's just a nuisance dealing with it twice a year.

They say (whoever "THEY" are) that it takes the average person a week to adjust their bodies to the time change. They also say that the likelihood of people getting heart-attacks increases measurably during the time changes.

I could have kept on keeping on changing my clocks twice a year, right up until they said that we may be able to make it go away.

I'm lazy by nature, so given the choice, I'll take more daylight in the summer evenings and leave it there.

It's only a problem if you are both lazy AND cheap. If you aren't cheap, you would have replaced all your clocks with versions that change automatically and not changed a single one.
