#320 Edie Brickell "Circle"

When I heard "What I Am", I absolutely despised the song. I would never have guessed (back when that song was all over radio and MTV) that this group could make a song I could stand, let alone love. Well, they did it - with their very next single. I love how the lyrics alternate between someone concerned with the despondency of a friend, and the friend who stopped hanging out with them. The opening/closing lines really speak to me, because I've been on both sides of this conversation.

Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
And we notice you don't come around
And me, I think it all depends
On you touching ground with us

Weezer's 2018 remake of Africa went to number one on Billboard''s alternative chart and #5 on the rock chart. The video includes Weird Al Yankovic and three other guys but none of the members of Weezer. Let's see if Mister sadchild likes this version as much as the original:

That’s a great song. It’s got that atmospheric thing going on that made it stand apart from everything else back in 82. I love the vibrato on the guitar.

#318 Dada "Dizz Knee Land"

Perfect example of that early 90s rock and roll sound, along with other quintessential tracks like School Of Fish "3 Strange Days" and Soup Dragons "Divine Thing". There was a station out of Nashua NH called B106 that played great stuff like this between Goo Goo Dolls, Cranberries, Counting Crows, Matthew Sweet, et al. I used to listen to that station a lot - until they started adding Britney Spears-pop in the late 90s.

Nashua Telegraph (Newspaper) - March 8, 1991, Nashua, New Hampshire: WHOB Sounds Good To Many In Area
NASHUA — Go ahead — walk through a mall in Nashua or Manchester, hop on a bus or taxi, sit in the dentist’s chair, chances are B106.3 is tuned in. For 3 1/2 years, WHOB-FM has been settling into its own groove, climbing higher and attaining a second-place showing overall in the rated Manchester market.

Knowing you had "3 Strange Days" "Divine Thing" & "Pleasure" on the set list, I'd have come to see your band!
Thanks. We rarely got out of the basement. Unfortunately we only played a few parties. I moved to Cincinnati to get my degree and the band kinda broke up. (Half of them got into a band that wound up playing out a lot.) After I moved back to town, and a 20 year hiatus, those are the guys I'm playing with today. Unfortunately, we still don't manage to play out often.

#317 Ben Folds Five "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces"

Shoving fame and fortune into the face of the bullies and girls who turned their nose up at you back in school? Hey, I can live the fantasy along with Ben, can't I?

That’s a good one. Brick is an instant channel changer. I have a similar reaction to that as I do to the Smiths. I’d turn this one up.

Exactly. BFF is a great band, I have their live album. Ben Folds was a child music prodigy. He was actually a drummer in his first band. He's a fantastic pianist, he can cover Elton John songs perfectly.
