#309 Slipknot "(sic)"
I went to Locobazooka '99 in Worcester MA. There were a bunch of bands that were only somewhat-known at the time who soon got huge: Staind, Static X, System Of A Down, Coal Chamber.... and Slipknot. Slipknot's set was so intense and the crowd was pushing so hard, we were all literally at a 45 degree angle! I was leaning back (but not falling over) in a mass of sweaty humans being pushed like reeds in the wind. Then it would all shift and I'd be leaning at a 45 degree angle forward - just stacks of bodies being mashed into one another. Later I found this CD, featuring two "Rough Mixes" of "Surfacing" and "Eyeless" and was immediately hooked. When I got the full album, this opening track blew my damn head clean off my shoulders. I still think it's their best song.
