Yeah I'm pretty sure "Girl Anachronism" is Dresden Dolls biggest song.
They are a bit too Broadway for me. I'll get my quirk from TMBG, and the like.
Yep, that's the hottest song ever in my world.
I picked up what you were puttin down.
And I don't mind a little funk from a stuffy car ride. Let them pheromones

@sadchild Do you base your like of the song on the song or on the video?

Usually I base a song on if/how it moves me emotionally. 2nd most popular criteria is if/how it moves me musically (good riff, talented musicianship, catchy, intriguing sound, or any combination of these kind of things).

But yes, there have been times a music video sold me on the song. Where maybe I was lukewarm to the song at first, but the video put it into some kind of context. The song may not resonate with me until the video makes something click. Like Frightened Rabbit "Get Out", for example. I didn't get into the song until I saw the amazing video. MGMT "Your Life Is A Lie" is another example. Before seeing its video I was like "WTF?". But after seeing the wacky video, I was still going "WTF?"... but now I enjoy the WTF aspect of the whole package. Same with Die Antwoord "Baby's On Fire". The video brought me from "What is this crap?" to "I'm really digging this weird crap!".

It's not always a music video that can accomplish this though. I originally didn't care for Simple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me". But after seeing the film, well, you'll see the song come up on the 333 at some point. So music videos, films and other media definitely can help me get into a song, but it's usually not the case.

While on the subject, sometimes I like a song, and the video just makes me like it even more. Like Mother Mother "The Stand", Counting Crows "Palisades Park" and Ingrid Michaelson "Time Machine". Those videos are like adding whipped cream on the brownie.

And sometimes the opposite happens. There can be a music video I love, but it still doesn't help me like the song at all. Like most of OK Go's videos are great but I don't care for most of their music. Or David Crowder Band "SMS [Shine]", which is one of my all-time fav music vids of all ever, but the song is just okay.

#207 Police "Synchronicity II"

Revolver: Wait a minute. Sting, what’s the Loch Ness monster really synchronous with?
Copeland: His penis, he answered that question.
Sting: Yes, my dick! It’s a another monstrous, hidden thing from Northern Britain.
Copeland: That comes out of the slime and that no one has ever seen, or believes in!
Sting: And the Japanese are fascinated by it!
Copeland: And a photograph of which would be worth a lot of money!

#206 Fleetwood Mac "Go Your Own Way"

I just love this old Burger King commercial song. Oh wait, that was "Have It Your Way".

Both examples of bands that made their best albums during a time when they couldn't stand to be in the same room together.

Epic! It's a sonic adventure with a driving bassline.

Really good song.
I'm glad that there wasn't a penis story to go along with it.

The thing for me about Soul Asylum is I like that whole album (the last two songs are just okay) and all of its b-sides. But until 2016's "Supersonic", I didn't like anything else they've done. It was just a small span of time where I thought they were great, everything else did nothing for me at all. Odd.

#204 Anthrax "Poison My Eyes"

One of my favorite metal albums of all time is Sound Of White Noise - Anthrax's first one with Armored Saint vocalist John Bush. Before that I only liked their 'odd' songs like "Bring The Noise" (with Public Enemy), "Antisocial", "I'm The Man" and "Starting Up A Posse". I'm not much of an 80s Anthrax fan. The craziest thing is that the 2nd best song on Sound Of White Noise ... didn't make the album (but was recorded in the same sessions). It ended up on the Last Action Hero Soundtrack (which is awesome BTW).

I really like the AC/DC track from that album "Big Gun". But the whole album is a good. I also liked the movie while most people did not.

#203 Depeche Mode "Never Let Me Down Again"

This song resonates with me because I had a friend go behind my back and hook up with a girl I had gone on a date with. We talked about it. He apologized and said he wouldn't do anything like that again. As far as I know, he kept his word. But for a good long while this song was lingering in the back of my head because a lot of guys don't always think with the right head when opportunity 'pops up'...

I'm taking a ride with my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again

I hope he doesn't drive the Gremlin.

That's a great album, but it's probably 3rd behind Playing the Angel, and Violator.

#202 Eminem "My Name Is"

First time I heard this song was on WFNX (the alt station out of Boston, RIP). By the end, my jaw was on the floor. It was like someone took a steam roller and nonchalantly murdered several pop culture icons, then leapt off a cliff - but somehow made me laugh while doing it. It actually felt wrong (and awkward) laughing at his lines. In fact, when I heard "Just Don't Give A Fuck" a little later, I was actually offended by the Ron Goldman line. I debated if I should stop listening to him because he was taking it too far. I still can't believe he became the biggest selling artist of the decade (2000-2009). Before "The Real Slim Shady" went huge, I figured he'd just end up as "just another one of those weird things Mark listens to" (and there have been plenty of those!).
