Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Genre: new wave, alt rock

Discovered: MTV "Two Tribes"

Other: I'm a much bigger fan of this band than most would expect me to be. Pleasure Dome is one of my all time fav albums.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Relax
2. Welcome To The Pleasure Dome
3. Born To Run
4. The Power Of Love
5. War

Nope (not that I know of anyway). Lou's is actually quite a pop song. But his voice is incredible and I love the lyrics.

I had forgotten about that one. It hadn't rung a bell when you mentioned it before.
Poppy 80's for sure, but it's got a good melody, sound, and is well produced.

Frente

Genre: indie pop

Discovered: don't remember

Other: Back in the early 90s, I only knew their very-different-sounding cover of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" (which I love, despite not liking the original) and "Labour Of Love". It wasn't until less than 10 years ago I listened to more of their stuff. While it isn't as good as those two, it's still pretty good.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Bizarre Love Triangle
2. Labour Of Love
3. Ordinary Angels
4. Accidentally Kelly Street
5. Dangerous

Surprisingly I know the top 3. I have you to thank for "Born To Run". :)

fun

Genre: pop rock, alt rock

Discovered: super bowl ad

Other: "We Are Young" peaked at #53 on the Hot 100 in late 2011. Then it was covered by Glee (*shudder*) and re-entered the chart in early 2012. Then it was featured in a Super Bowl ad and shot to #1 (86 - 89 - 63 - 41 - 3 - 6 - 3 - 1). If it weren't for that ad, most of the world (including me) probably would never have known the song and their other great songs. And Jack Antonoff may not have ended up writing with Taylor Swift either (for whatever that's worth besides gobs of money in his pocket).

HIGH FIVE:

1. Some Nights
2. We Are Young
3. Sight Of The Sun
4. Carry On
5. Out On The Town

Fu-Schnickens

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: MTV

Other: Their rapping is crazy fast and they throw in a lot of fun pop culture references like Looney Tunes and old martial arts movies.

HIGH FIVE:

1. What's Up Doc (with Shaq)
2. Aaahhh Ooohhh!
3. True Fushnick
4. Ring The Alarm
5. La Schmoove

Genesis

Genre: rock, pop rock, soft rock, alt rock (they were prog rock too, but I don't know that material)

Discovered: don't remember

Other: I kinda knew about them all throughout growing up (at least since around 1980) but aside from "Mama" I was only a casual fan of a half dozen of their songs until 1991's "No Son Of Mine". Their late-70s/early-80s stuff didn't go from "it's pretty good" to "it's really good" for me until at least the mid-90s.

HIGH FIVE:

1. No Son Of Mine
2. Mama
3. Abacab
4. Illegal Alien
5. Just A Job To Do

George was everywhere. It’s pretty crazy the lengths that he (and other musicians) would go through to play on records that weren’t on their own label. I’ve got to wonder how much work he did without even getting credit under a pseudonym.

George Thorogood

Genre: rock, boogie rock

Discovered: MTV

Other: My uncle started saying "b-b-b-b-b-b-bad" once in a while and I had no idea why. Weeks (or months?) later, MTV helped me understand why. And for all the shock I've had over songs on the Hot 100 that never made the top 40, the thought that "Bad To The Bone" not only never made the Hot 100 at all but only peaked at #27 on the Rock Chart blows them all away.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Bad To The Bone
2. Get A Haircut
3. I Drink Alone
4. If You Don't Start Drinkin' (I'm Gonna Leave)
5. Move It On Over

George is cool, and I dig the bluesy guitar work and party attitude, but a little goes a long way for some reason.
I'm not sure why. It may be because of FM radio overplaying him.

Gerardo

Genre: hip hop, latin club

Discovered: MTV

Other: Guilty pleasure. He's probably the only artist born in Ecuador on my list. And I'm probably the only person in the world who has listened to more than "Rico Suave" since about 1995.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Rico Suave
2. Fandango
3. We Want The Funk
4. Latin Til I Die
5. Christina
