I hate I just now saw this thread. Rural Retreat is dominating the news once again. The fish story has really catapulted our town into the main stream consciousness. Our lone police chief measured the fish himself, whilst downing a ice cold Dr. Pepper.

I just drove back from there yesterday after a week's vacation. It was delightful, although we did see the immediate aftermath of a nine-year-old boy who got hit by an SUV at an intersection. (He's expected to make a full recovery, praise be to Neptune.)

It sounds like an osprey dropped it. An osprey once dropped part of a cooked crawfish on me, and a hawk once dropped half a rabbit at my feet. If you hang around outdoors enough, strange shit happens.
