Portable GPS?

I will be sending the Dash Express back on Monday, yes. None of the Garmin's are internet connected, (Yahoo/google search), except for the subscription based MSN. Also, I do beleive the Garmin'
s require an external traffic receiver in order to utilize "Live Traffic". The TeleNav does not require such a device. From what I've read, the MSN capability is pretty week.

Wow...the TeleNav sounds like a cool GPS with all the features it has and the price is pretty good. The subscription service doesn't seem that bad either since it offers free map updates. If you currently own a Garmin or TomTom unit, you know how much map updates can be. :eek:

Give us a detailed review and possibly some pics of it in action when you get your unit, mrpacs. Hell, even DAB might be persuaded to get one!! :D

GArmin c550 and it passes up streets and drives me in circles sometimes !
I wish I never got the 2008 update map.Anyone know how to put it back to factory?
 
I've noticed the Garmin Holiday Ads have started running on TV. I always like them they are up beat!

None of these devices are perfect and folks have to use some common sense when using them.

Ain't that the truth. As a truck driver, I use a Garmin everyday and just because it tells me to go one way, I have to always make sure it's legal for me to go that way.

It also can't account for truck restricted route or low clearance...:(

I'm still thinking about ditching my TomTom and going for the TeleNav unit when we get a review from mrpacs. That thing looks nice on print, but a solid review by someone who has touched one will be the main decider.

Sounds pretty good, but not perfect....yet. Like the Dash, future s/w updates are coming "soon". I want to get a nav unit, but cannot decide what unit yet. The Gamin 260W is a Black Friday Special at BB for $189.
 
None of them are perfect. I've tried many of them. The Dash is close to being perfect except for the fact that it is HUGE. I really like the Shotgun although it does not have Google or Yahoo search ability. The 11 million POI's help make up for that though. The Shotgun includes a web browser plug-in that when clicked, automatically adds a selected address to your GPS favorites. I plan out my entire day from my PC. It's very handy.
 
Although the video review on the unit looks nice, I guess I will pass on it for now. That blinking light looks like it will get annoying and possibly distracting.

Apple needs to come out with a GPS!! :D
 
We have the Nuvi 880 with the voice recognition. Gotta reccomend that one! No other GPS will top the 880! We took it on vacation last September and the fact that you can tell it what to find without having to touch the screen makes it worth the price alone. I think we paid $850 for it in September and it makes sense the price would be dropping this time of year.

You can also use the voice recognition to dial calls if you pair it to a phone. All the screen icons names can be spoken from the maps screen and more. If you want to find fast food, just say find fast food from the maps screen and it wil find the nearest fast food places. They really designed this thing with very little touch screen involvement as possible! And the built in games are fun as well. :D

We also have a Nuvi 680, bought it the day it went on sale at BestBuy two years ago and paid $1000 for it. We rarely use it since we got the 880.
 
Thanks SpaceKitty, you pushed me over the edge. I just bought the Garmin nuvi 880 from a dude on ebay. He has 99 of them left.

A fe other things you may not know about when you get yours:

If you zoom in by tapping the + on the screen in certain areas, the map display will change to a topographic display. It was cool on vacation last year while driving in the dark to be able to see what the areas mountains looked like as well as lakes and things like that. It will change back to the 3D map view on it's own when you get to towns and cities.

Also when you drive on the highway, the map display will show allot more detail such as streets but without street names. Once you exit, it zooms back in automatically so you see the street names etc.

I'm not sure how Garmin can ever top the 880.
