Memebag build a PC

Update:

I'm adding another 6GB of RAM to Baphometron. I saw that Crucial is replacing my model with a newer version, and wanted to get some that matched exactly before that happened. I don't expect a noticeable difference in performance, but it was only $70.

I've been reading that with the latest chips (you have a core i7, yes?) and Win 7, that adding RAM is an exercise in diminishing returns.

But if you're happy, I'm happy. You can never have enough altitude or enough RAM.

Yeah, I don't expect much from it, but it was cheap and I had empty slots. It was cool to watch explorer grab 11.7GB last night.

The down side is that my pagefile is twice as big now, which makes a difference on my little SSD. My f-ing winsxs folder is over 10GB, so I have to be careful.
 
Baphometron is about to get a new video card. The Radeon HD7870 Ghz Edition card is only $240, and it's 4x faster than the one I bought 2.5 years ago. I don't really need a faster video card, but what the hey.

A Radeon 7870 maxes out both graphics numbers.

Don't know if anyone else knows but Tiger Direct has been spreading their building competitions around the country.
Basically, you have x amount of minutes to build a computer. Everyone has the same computer/tools and the first person to build/powerup/connect to the server ip wins. 1st place in every city wins a trip to Las Vegas for the annual competition at CES.
I came pretty close to placing (4th) at the Chicagoland event and I only very casually build. If you see one near you and have any familiarity to building, I would urge you to enter. It was a lot of fun and you get to meet people also into building.

And Memebag... you have convinced me to start building my next masterpiece. Numbers like that are enviable.
 
I just replaced the old 80GB Intel SSD with a new 250GB Samsung 840 EVO. iTunes was putting all of my iPad backups on the system disk, and 80GB wasn't cutting it. That combined with the Radeon 7870 video card has my Windows Experience Index up 7.9 on everything except the memory ops (7.6) and processor (7.5).

It looks like the next upgrade will have to be the mother board. Sigh.
