I've never heard it.

My daughter and wife listen to "Royals" and "Radioactive" (parodied as "Inactive"), so I've heard those.

To be fair, "Blurred Lines" is a smart, catchy song, with shitty lyrics and three douchebags behind the mic. "Royals" is a unique pop tune, whose success Lorde will never repeat (thank you, please go away, freak).

Imagine Dragons's singles sound the same, to the point of being able to sing the lyrics to one over the other. They're forgettable. (Sing it with me: "It's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide" Now, slowly, "Radioactive, radioactive.")

What kind of world do you live in that you haven't personally heard any of these on the radio/ tv/ entertainment shows/ award shows/ etc? The last two are played on every pop/ rock/ alternative/ adult contemporary/ easy listening station around. Please help me understand.

. Don't understand the personal vendetta you have against Lorde. As she recorded those songs at 15, she most certainly has more success in her future. And even if you dislike Imagine Dragons, their string of hit songs from their debut album is a rare feat.

I live in a world where I'm 48 years old and I get to decide what I put in my head. I only listen to news on the radio. I don't like any of the music on the radio anymore. Lately I listen to a lot of The Ponys, The Dirtbombs, old Pink Floyd, Stone Roses, New York Dolls and Röyksopp. I never watch award shows. Why would I?

My daughter is 13. Her brain is what current pop music is aimed at. Even when I was 13 my brain was nowhere near the crosshairs. At 13 I was all about Devo, Kraftwerk, Benny Goodman and Bach.

Some of us old farts can't appreciate good, new music :)

I love a lot of new music. The sound is probably the best in twenty years

I listen to a lot of new music (see above) but none of it is played on the radio. At least not in Houston. Most of it is in Spanish now, and I still haven't learned Spanish.

ditto, half the stations in Phoenix are in spanish, I hardly understand it and I don't plan on learning it anytime soon.

Imagine Dragons has some alright songs, I like some of Lorde music and I believe she has a good future in head of her. Hell Adele is still pretty young and she has quite bit of hits and she supposedly has another album coming out this year.

I don't have a "personal vendetta" against Lorde. I haven't shown up at her house or anything...yet. I just think she's a one-hit wonder. The rest of her songs have been weak. She's not an especially gifted singer. She may just be a lucky teenager. It's okay. Rock and pop are full of one-hit wonders.

Also, a zillion acts have had strings of hits from debut albums. It's hardly a rare feat. The Beatles, Guns and Roses, the Beastie Boys, the Cars, Madonna, Van Halen, Boston, Pearl Jam, blah blah blah.

Good second albums after a big debut are much harder to find.

I'd post more but you can work the Googles as well as I.

Some groups never get a second chance here. What we hear on the radio is not so much up to us as it is record labels.

The British boy band Take That only achieved limited success here in the US, but have grown around the world in ways some US artists could only dream of.

The most popular of the five, Robbie Williams, can walk down an L.A. street in total anonymity, but would be mobbed elsewhere in the world ...
