I have never HAD to update anything unless I wanted to. Just because there is an update, doesn't mean I need it this instant. I am glad if something is broken that it is fixed quickly. For the iPhone, I have been waiting for months for 5.1.

Rather you do it or not is not the point. It is the mere number that is constantly popping up. I have continued to use Windows machines and I can tell you I am offered 1 OS X Updated to every 30 or more on a Windows machine.

I am not waiting on iOS 5.1 as I don't have any issues. 5.1 is going to be more about new features than fixes. I am not sure why anyone would be waiting for it though. It's like waiting on Windows 8. Well maybe not. LOL

Price wise you could argue either way but my experience has shown overall the Mac to be a better value even though the initial cost is more.

Since Apple controls all aspects from hardware to OS it's higher quality situation. If you really honestly compare like quality equipment they are much closer in price than it seems. One thing that cannot be argued is there are tons of crap PC's on the market. Apple admittedly does not compete in that arena.

Here's why I like PCs. Here's the system I recently built for $1200. Dual SLI graphics cards, water cooled, and can be easily overclocked to around 5GHz. A similar mac would be almost triple in price:

Indeed I use to build PC's years ago. Have ZERO desire to do so today mainly because I am just not willing to be stuck with Windows anymore.
 
I'd love to buy a Mac but SAP doesn't run very well on the Apple OS. If it ran like it did on Windows i would have bought a Mac a long time ago. Until then I'm quite happy with my 6 year old Dell which has never let me down. This baby may only have a 1.8 GHz Core2 Duo but add to that a SSD and you have one fast computer. I just wish I could get more use out of the 6GBs of RAM than the 3.46 allowed. I'd upgrade to the 64 bit version but not all of my customers' VPN plays nicely with a 64 bit OS.

Compatibility is a major consideration when moving to a Macs/OSX. I've wanted to move to Mac in our offices for 2 years or more, but we didn't because we utilize state systems that were simply not compatible OSX. However, those old systems are being taken off line as of Feb 29 and beginning March 1 the new managed care system is totally OSX compatible. We will begin switching to Macs on our next upgrade cycle, which I have already budgeted for. My IT guys said he is scared he won't have a job because the few Macs that we have in operation now never need his services. LOL I told him not to worry we will let him managed the company web site. hehehe
 
We are about to pull the trigger on a iMac replacing my HP Media Center PC.

Debating some options.

I have a 640 GB Hard Drive now with 130 GB free (have photos and music duplicated need to clean those up).

Would you just buy a larger portable drive or pay the $300 difference?

I have a 1 TB external already that I have copies backed up on.
 
In doing my research I have thought about the whole MAC vs PC thing.

One thing to consider, with my PC I had to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse and web cam where those are built into a PC.

Also they come with some useful software unlike a PC that is bloated with crap ware.
 
TX, I'd go for the 1 tb. It is not easy to replace the hard drive in an iMac.

My wife had the 500 gig model and it's awesome.

My next computer will be an iMac.

I guess your choice might depend on how much space you can clear from your existing system. Between the 2, I'd go for the cheaper model - but then, I have TONS of external drive space (plus a linux server in the basement). If you don't want to deal with that kinda thing, then go for the bigger drive. Replacing them can be done, but as noted, doing so is a huge PITA in the iMacs (especially these newest models). And as Jon said, no matter what you do, get Time Machine set up. Even if you never use it, it's an easy initial step to backups that most people never bother with and gives you some protection in case of drive failure.
 
I am ipad user and lover, the price for the product is great, not over priced and much better then the other one i have owned( touch-pad and a knockoff from china). I have always felt that when it came to pc's and lap-tops I could never rationalize the extra $ for the Apple. I have read the other post that say more or less "its just better" and doesn't cost much more, I think it is not fair to dismiss the cost difference of getting a great sale that stores run on pc's. I have a 2 year old "plastic" win 7 laptop I got on sale, last month at best-buy the apple laptop closest to my specs was $1100, that 5 times what I payed on black friday 2 years ago. I would love to find one on the side of the road but I just cant see spending the extra money for smaller hard drives, less ram, and smaller processors, on all HARDWARE specs win laptops are 1/2 the cost, even less if you catch sales at best-buy of whatever. Any way I'm babbling, recap Love iPad-price competitive, Apple laptops- prices not competitive with same specs on win laptops.

ps- no issues from $200 win 7 15.6" laptop that rides around in a service van on a homemade laptop desk getting daily use, any way, I got the store warranty.

I always felt just like you until I just went for it one day. Purchased one from Amazon knowing I could just return it. Needless to say all that value talk went right out the window. No pun intended!

I will NEVER go back to win pc I don't care how cheap they are. It's about a lot more than specs and that seems to be were it breaks down for folks.

I have no issues with either my wifes or mine or my son's Windows PCs. My wife did have the DVD drive fail but the seller replaced it with no hassle.

I think one needs to be careful buying off the shelf thrown together PCs and trust the seller. I have never gone wrong with this approach and saved some $ along the way.
 
TX, I'm in the same boat as you. I've been wanting an iMac ever since I sat down and used one. I'm waiting for the refresh. I think I'm going to go with the 2TB drive. That way I know I will be set. By the way those things look amazing in person and even the lower end machines are really fast. My brother in law was playing Left 4 Dead on his and it ran flawlessly and it looked great.
 
I don't think I can wait, for the $1499 for a 500 GB model and a 2 TB Time Capsule (wireless drive). That way I could use the 2TB for photos, music and back ups and leave the 500 GB drive for the OS and other files.
 
I've been mulling over the 27" model iMacs. Have had one at work for a little over a year now, and man, they are fantastic. My current MBP hit 2.5 years old this month, so might be time to sell it and upgrade. Think I'll wait for the next refresh, though, unless I can get a fantastic closeout price on the current models from the campus computer store as they clear them out. We'll see.... decisions, decisions :D
 
If I hadn't bought a car this time around I'd have a 27" iMac. I was seriously considering it until I realized I needed a car worse.
