On this first commercial day of summer, I biked the full city loop, for the first time, with the new signs that direct you through the entire route. The signs were great, especially since some of the route is on the streets. I did not realize I had not ridden on many of the city trails before.
My listening choice during the ride was the Summer Mix: SPF 50 Countdown. The 50 greatest summer songs of all time.
The route is supposed to be 23 miles but my odometer recorded 28 miles. The question was whether I would finish the route before my mix ended.
But I finished the route at song #8 "Vacation" by the Go Go's. The Countdown had a little bit of everything: "Summer Wind" Frank Sinatra, "School's Out" Alice Cooper and halfway through the route and the countdown, in the most rural part of the route, they had a 60's song that put a smile on my face: I think it was
"See You In September". I listened to the rest of the countdown on my porch. #4 "Here Comes The Sun" #3 "Summer of 69" #2 "Boys of Summer" and #1 "Surfin USA" And I still had two bars left on my battery. Next time I ride the route, I will listen to my favorite channel.

The Happenings' See You In September peaked at #3 on the August 27 1966 Hot 100 behind the Lovin' Spoonful's Summer In The City and Bobby Hebb's Sunny. The original version by the Tempos, a Pittsburgh quintet, reached #23 on the September 7 1959 Hot 100 and was their only chart hit. Here are both versions:
