They say category 5 but their little graphic shows 4.

But the path of the radar is a pretty wide path. I am not sure anybody in Florida is going to be completely scott free.

"I sat in my boat here in Tampa through the last hurricane (which hit the panhandle, not Tampa). I'm gonna do it again!"

Paging Charles Darwin...

I didn’t watch the clip but we have numbskulls here too who swear that staying on the boat is their safest option. I don’t get it

I think I mentioned the whole debacle with my father-in-law's 90 year old cousin who lived in Venice FL, and needed end of life care, and Mrs. Scotch was the only family member who was willing to fly down and help. Well maybe I didn't, but that happened last fall, and then he passed in February. Well anyway, he had a condo about a block from the beach, and it's being sold as part of his estate. So while I normally wouldn't give a shit about that area, I may have to start.

A big enough boat on the open water, maybe. I still think the risk of capsizing is high. But if you are close to the shore, you will be part of the storm surge and get killed when your boat slams the side of a building.

Google is not helping me on this, the official Landfall time of a hurricane is when the center of the eye hits land, not when the beginning of the eye hits?

The National Weather Service defines "landfall" as "The intersection of the surface center of a tropical cyclone with a coastline. Because the strongest winds in a tropical cyclone are not located precisely at the center, it is possible for a cyclone's strongest winds to be experienced over land even if landfall does not occur. Similarly, it is possible for a tropical cyclone to make landfall and have its strongest winds remain over the water."

Now I is even more confused!

I remember visiting my mother and stepfather when they lived in Florida. The hurricane hit with whipping winds and a lot of rain. Then it got quiet. We went outside and he explained the eye of the hurricane was over us now. It was eerily peaceful, in a creepy way. Then a little later the wind picked back up and the rain came back and it whipped the house for a while again.

There was one a couple of years ago, they had cameras in the eye. You saw people walking their dogs and stuff taking advantage of the quiet.

The Walt Disney World theme parks closed Wednesday afternoon after Hurricane Milton made landfall. They remained closed yesterday. Today they reopened. Here is what someone – who is not to good at spelling and punctuation – wrote today on X. And I wonder why he capitalized "greedy." Maybe he thinks Greedy is one of the Seven Dwarfs.

"Disney is so Greedy even at the cost of peoples lives. They stayed open way to long and opening up to quickly."

Hurricane Milton aftermath: 17 dead as Florida power outages and flooding persist

We're off topic again but that's okay. Here are 53 names that were considered for the Seven Dwarfs before Walt Disney decided upon Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Dopey, Sleepy, Sneezy and Bashful. I wonder what Hotsy and Chesty would have looked like.

Another year and South Florida was spared from any significant even tropical storm, let alone hurricane. Which makes me all the more concerned for next year. Just playing the odds over here.

Also at some point I'm going to have to eat a lot of canned pineapple and tuna and beans. All that shit I put away like 2 years ago for hurricane preparedness.

But I'm happy I bought all that other shit like lanterns and the battery powered generator and a bunch of flashlights and shit. I mean it's always good to have them.

We're a week away from the new season and I came across this article:

Nothing we all didn't already know but still interesting.

Key Largo (Montego, baby why don't we go) is the northern most key and it's about 100 miles from me. Key West is the southernmost key and it's about 200 miles away.

Anyway, it's been too long since one hit my area. Since I've lived in FL (2005) the only real hit I can remember is Wilma and that was in 05. I always get a bit worried my luck is bound to run out at some point.

I have a good hurricane supply closet and I'll be touching it up over the next few months. The real threat of the season doesn't start until September or so.

Can say this now since hurricane season is over. Other than the poor folks in the Caribbean, for the rest of us, easiest hurricane season ever. Nothing entered the Gulf.
