We had a lot of wind yesterday, and today the temp went from 93 down to 73 in about 2 hours as a big line of thunderstorms rolled through. They said to expect 70 MPH winds. The worst of it just passed our immediate area.

We are on the outer bands of the 'disturbance'. Got a couple of really nice summer thunderboomers. Lots of lightning and only for a minute did I think I would need to take the arc out of storage. Lost power once for 5 seconds.

It’s a beautiful day here today. Sunny, high of 75 with a light breeze. Its too bad there isn’t any baseball. It would be a great day to skip work and take in a day game.

The cone shifted slightly west since the 2pm update:

I filled up the RAV's tank today and made sure to park it in the middle of the lot, as far away from trees as possible. Likely this will be no big deal but just in case I made a bunch of ice and got the cooler out. I already have a lot of canned goods and water so I have no need to do any food shopping. I also have been charging everything. I have a battery powered lantern and flashlight and still have extra batteries for both from last year. Oh and of course I have a solid stock of candles, but that's not really a hurricane prep thing.

For me the best case scenario is for a really crazy storm but it doesn't knock out my power. Watching crazy weather is fun, so long as I have power.

My heart goes out to you. It's tough to imagine experiencing such hardship. Were you able to get through those trying times with the help of candles?
Well it was enough that my modem/router restarted. I actually had to get up from the dinner table and hit the Play button on my SXM app. I may need to seek counseling.

After the 2nd outage, we gathered the Yankee candles and flashlight. We were ready for the long haul.

Central Iowa and Northern Illinois had something last Momday called a Derecho, a Land Hurricane, which caused a considerable amount of damage. I never heard of it before nor thought something like that could happen in this part of the country.
