There were many 1970s number-ones that I hate – but I was kind and didn't rate any of them a zero. I gave a lot of 1s and 2s though. Some of the disco songs that I liked in the 1970s I no longer like in the 2020s.

I gave 5 or 6 0s. I would like to have given one of them -5007 but the rating system did not allow it. I gave all that I did not know a 2.

I will be deducting 1 point from "The Night Chicago Died" as there was no east side of Chicago in 1974, according to Dick Sainte and the other WCFL DJ's

1979: I believe "My Sharona" was the beginning of the 80's style of popular music

I’m reposting this on the next page. Thank you to C98 and IRBS for the correction notice I appreciate it. I’ve fixed the dubs and typos, and I also appreciate everyone who voted early.

Earlier today, I had some issues with Microsoft Forms as it went down for no reason which effected 1974 dups Al Wilson's: Show & Tell. The years 1970, 1972, 1974, and 1975all have been corrected and now include updated links. Due to some ASS submitted their votes as “N/A” or “Anonymous.” Unfortunately, due to these issues and errors, all the votes had to be removed.

I’m going with the same format used for the 80s Madness. Below are the voting links for each year of the 1970s, along with an example of how to vote.

Simply rate each song from 0–10 to help determine the rankings. Voting will close late Sunday night on March 29. Let the voting begin!

I just voted – again. Most of these songs, especially the disco hits, I rated much lower than I would have rated them in the 1970s. I gave zeros to four songs, including the ones with the annoying "ooga-chaka ooga-chaka" and "gitchi gitchi ya-ya da-da."

Here is Burning Love by Elvis Presley with J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. This was number one on the November 11 1972 Cash Box Top 100. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked two weeks earlier at #2.

I have some questions. How could Chicago - or any city - not have an east side? And why would it not have an east side in 1974, but have it earlier or later?

And about My Sharona. Are you referring to that as post-punk or some variation like power pop? I would agree with that. But that type of music was being made by Elvis Costello in '77, or Joe Jackson in early '79. And probably many others if I thought about it.

I originally made the comment that if any songs were missing from the list I posted in posts 3 and 4, they should be added. Nearly a week went by with no additional songs were submitted, so I based on what Channel98 had posted. Moving forward, we should stick with Billboard, which is often referred to as “the bible of the music business.”

I finally got around to listing the #1 songs from the 70s. I’ll generate some forms soon. If anyone thinks there are other 70s songs that should be on the list but aren’t included below, please nominate them now.

Maybe, if there is a 70s song on Cash Box not listed on Billboard #1s. That can be entered as well.

Perhaps 98 can provide you a list of Cashbox #1s which were NOT Billboard #1s and those can be entered as well.

There are around a hundred. There are also a few songs that were number one in Billboard but not in Cash Box. And what about the weekly charts in Record World (1946-82) and Radio & Records (1973-2009)? We should stick with Billboard, which has often been called "the bible of the music business."

I’ve already reset the forms, and I’m not going to restart them again or add missing songs at this point. Once all the voting is complete and a certain number of songs advance to the main tournament, we can consider adding any remaining missing songs as wildcard entries to qualify for the main tournament, if everyone agrees.
