The highlight, or I guess lowlight, of this story is that between 2 people completely liquidating their assets they could only come up with 10k.
I am fascinated with these 2 boat morons now. In the least surprising update to the story, they now have a gofundme. As of this post they have been given $3,541.

Just saw this story on my local news and I guess they have been talking about it for awhile cause the segment was an update on the story:
This server was mad when a church didn’t tip her for a $735 order. Now she’s fired.
So the church wound up tipping her after it made the news but Outback fired her. Now usually I'm on the side of the server. If you sit down and have a server then my policy is a 20% minimum. But for carry out? I don't know about that. I've never ordered $700+ of food in my life but when picking up a pizza I never tip. Delivery is of course a different story and the 20% applies there too. The whole point of carry out is that you make the effort to go get the food so that kinda negates the need to tip.

It's proper to tip something. I've picked up catering a few times for orders between $700 and $1200. Fortunately someone else that was used to ordering for events like that took care of the tip.
Umm, I have to ask this, but has anybody actually seen the first boat? My something is not smelling right radar is going off full blast.
I never tip for pickup. Don't tip for drive through either. I did not know Outback did pickup. Thought it was a 100% sit down place.
I'm questioning what the proper tip etiquette is now. So I'm good not tipping when I pick up pizza, like I've always done, but if I were to order a large (like $700) catering meal, but even still pick it up myself, a tip would need to be given. That just sounds wrong to me.
I've only hosted a catered event once, and it was well under $700 and the people came to my place and set it all up. Because they came to my home and set it up, I tipped them out. I still kinda think that if I went and picked it all up and set it up myself a tip would not be required, but maybe it's a social thing I just didn't know about until now.
I also tip a bit less at buffet as the waitresses only serve drinks. But I am not the one to probably listen to on this as I am a cheap bastard.
While I do get a kick out of this story, I'm not going back and reading the 2 articles again. I read one in the Mail and the one Semi posted. I think one mentioned they called some service that the article said was "the AAA of the sea" when they were going down. I don't remember any mention of the Coast Guard being involved. Kinda makes me think you may be onto something. Who knows, ya gotta be so jaded when reading these internet stories these days.

I don't tip unless someone comes to my seat, takes my order and brings me my food. I don't tip if I have to go up and order at the counter. Tips are for wait staff.

Florida woman: Airline told me to flush pet hamster
A Florida woman says an airline told her to flush her hamster down a toilet at the airport because the emotional support rodent wasn't allowed to fly with her.
Spirit Airlines denies telling Belen Aldecosea to flush the hamster named Pebbles. She says she did flush Pebbles, after running out of other options.
The Miami Herald reports that before Aldecosea flew home from college to South Florida, she twice called Spirit Airlines to ensure she could bring Pebbles, her pet dwarf hamster. No problem, the airline told her.
But Spirit refused to allow the animal on the flight at the Baltimore airport.
The 21-year-old told the paper that she flushed Pebbles. She said she's considering suing Spirit over the conflicting instructions that pressured her into making an anguished decision.
Aldecosea skipped her flight and tried to rent a car instead, but said she was too young to rent one. So she did what she felt was the most humane choice.
“She was scared. I was scared. It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet,” Aldecosea said. “I was emotional. I was crying. I sat there for a good 10 minutes crying in the stall.”
The student said she considered letting Pebbles run free outside but could not bear thinking of her hamster freezing to death or getting hit. “I didn’t have any other options,” she said.
Spirit Airlines spokesman Derek Dombrowski told the Miami Herald that an employee “mistakenly” told Aldecosea that Pebbles was allowed on the flight but denied that an employee suggested she flush the rodent down the toilet. “To be clear, at no point did any of our agents suggest this guest (or any other for that matter) should flush or otherwise injure an animal,” Dombrowski said.
The student said the hamster helped her when she developed a growth on her neck while at school and Pebbles was a doctor-approved emotional support animal.
