Parts of Florida’s Broward County are under quarantine after giant African land snails were detected​

Giant African land snails eat at least 500 different types of plants, and they can also chomp through stucco, plastic recycling bins and even signs. Their calcium shells bear pointy edges sharp enough to blow out tires of vehicles that run over them.

The snails also pose a health risk to humans because they carry a parasite called rat lungworm, which can cause meningitis.

"Officials with the Homestead Police Department said that at one point over the weekend, Wood reached out to the pet store in an attempt to arrange a deal for the return of the animal. This allowed law enforcement to trace the number and determine her identity."

"Wood now faces three counts of grand theft. The other two charges stemmed from separate robberies at two stores along Bird Road on June 26, in which she is accused of stealing coral with a total value of around $3,000."


Ok, so first of all, she blew it by calling the store. What an idiotic thing to do. And secondly, she stole coral?! WTF? From Bird Road nonetheless!
