I don't know what it is with Youtube TV, but when you're watching a game or any event that is in Dolby 5.1, you have this skipping/jitter issue with the video. It happened on the Thursday Night game, on yesterday's college games, and is happening today. Might be worth it to see if DIRECTV Stream has the same issue. If not I might switch.

That sounds like a setting issue with your TV. I wouldn't expect an audio encoding format to have any effect on video playback. But I understand that you're seeing a correlation between the two.

I thought of that, but it's been brought up several times online on places like reddit of subscribers having the same issue, and that's the correlation they're making also. Also the channels that aren't in 5.1 aren't having that issue.

I don't watch anything in 5.1 ( I'm strictly still a stereo-only guy, set-up wise ), but I've seen people on this other forum I frequent talk about this kinda thing. You might wanna give this thread a look ( posting the link to the most recent page of an almost 300 page thread ) :

I probably still have an active username on avsforum. I agree it's the go-to site for all things media related.

With expenses being what they are, and the current situation I may just cut back on Live streaming services for a while. I can get Monday Night Football on ESPN+ (we won't talk about last night's game), Sunday Night Football on Peacock (although I have issues with that as well), Thursday Night Football on Amazon, and my local CBS affiliate through Paramount+. Formula 1 has their own streaming service, and I will probably subscribe to MLB.TV next season.

I still remember my cousin telling me years ago that he had a conversation with a friend and mentioned he was trying to find a certain tool. That night, he suddenly started seeing ads on Facebook for that tool. He said, "I swear to you, I've never typed that into my phone, my computer, anything. I only said it aloud in conversation." Scary. Though nowadays, most seem to have accepted it as the new norm.

He started seeing ads for tool enlargement?

For a couple of years, Mrs. Scotch claimed this was happening, while I was being the naysayer. I'd say "well, you think you only talked about it, but you probably saw it somewhere (online), or searched for it". But eventually, it happened to me enough times that I know it's real.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people think they still have privacy. News Flash : no one does. Noooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooone.

Case in point...15-ish years ago, I worked at a mail order pharmacy. I was just some easily replaceable nobody making $9-something an hour. And part of my job required I had access to a massive mainframe database of our customers. I could easily get my hands on people's most sensitive info - Social Security numbers, everything. Medical records beyond what you'd assume ( so the daughter in this family had an abortion? Weird - seems like that should be private, medical records or not ).

I could've ruined people. So no, there is no such thing as privacy.

Being in IT there's oodles of training on PII and security (PII being Personal Identifiable Information). And if you have a security clearance, forget about it!

So I've reneged on my plan to avoid live streaming for a while and signed up for DirecTV Stream. I'm already noticing a dramatic improvement in picture quality from YTV, and it has my regional sports networks for Nuggets/Avalanche season. Liking it a lot so far.

We've had it for several months now, & I'm hard-pressed to come up w/any negatives. I was bummed out when we learned our Google Fiber TV was going away, but switching from that to DirecTV Stream has been close to seamless.

Got hooked up with The Disney bundle that includes ESPN plus. Will work out nicely for College Basketball season, and has a lot of non-major sports like College Hockey (Go Pioneers!) and includes some soccer leagues I’ve been getting into that’s not EPL. Most of this stuff I didn’t know was televised (Watching Women‘s College Volleyball right now).

I just did the same thing, because our El' Cheapo Hulu promo was about to run out. We wanted to keep it, & already had Disney+. The price on those is goin up, & some of my Jayhawks basketball is only on ESPN+, so it kinda seemed like a no-brainer. I was messin' around with the ESPN+ app the other night, & came across Kabaddi - a sport I'd never heard heard of before. They got all kindsa nutty stuff on there.
