I finally got around to completely unpacking and unstacking all my CDs and records, and getting them on the shelves in alphabetical order. I'd guess it's around 400 CDs and 300 records. But it could be more, probably not less.

There were many that I didn't remember I had, or how I got them. That's because people gave me their shit, or made copies of stuff for me, or said "I thought you might like this", or had gotten free samplers for making a purchase. I have a CD of hard rock songs done by various bluegrass artists. I have a double-CD collection from The Cars (turns out Mrs. Scotch had it pre-Scotch). I have the Thom York/ Flea project Atoms for Peace, which I don't remember buying. But the recording is incredible (though very electronic).

Anyway, at some point, I might do a series of listening sessions, where I grab a bunch for each sit-down, and check them out. Then I'll list what I played at each session in Scotch Sampler.

I gave up on alphabetization once I had teenagers in the house.
I no longer have anyone else grabbing them on a regular basis. But over the years, I've "shared" some with the kids, and they would either come back without the disc in the case, or just the disc with no case.

I also have these; a Foo Fighters CD and a James Morrison CD, which were part of a snack for our dog Jack Talisker. For our first Christmas with Jack, we put gifts under a Christmas tree. He ate a bunch of CDs, a full-sized Toblerone bar, and a Hickory Farms summer sausage.

This was Jack. He was a bit "troubled"

By the way, you might look at the picture of the CDs and records and think, "those don't look like proper media storage units". And you'd be right. The one I use for CDs previously was built for my Panasonic plasma TV, and the other one was a cabinet we used for my stereo equipment.

Aja front and center! <3
Before I redid the area with the partition curtains, I had some "album art" there, plus on the shelf above the records, and over another cabinet. It's a nice way to fill-up empty space.

This is one of the other displays I had (the pic is from the Scotch Sampler thread)

In my first real apartment in Concord 1990 (not watching TV) the walls were ugly so we covered them in probably 100 record flats. I'll have to find a photo and scan it.

For anyone that doesn't know what a record poster flat is, it's a record sleeve-sized poster that music stores would put in their windows to promote the newest albums.

When I was a teenager I had my entire walls covered in record posters and stuff that would be given with the albums. I think that got thrown away at some point. I wish I had some of them now but probably wouldn't have remained in great shape. They started out with thumbtacks in all 4 corners (and sometimes more depending on how they overlaid).

I really need to organize our CDs. I was looking for a couple this weekend that I swore we have, but can't find.
I used to have them organized be genre, which was good enough to find whatever I was looking for, but over the years, it's become full chaos.

My CD collection used to be like my prized possession, since I ripped it all to digital, I haven’t touched the CD’s in years.

I used to have them organized by genre
I've always grouped them by 3 broad categories: popular, jazz, classical. I remember going to Bullmoose records once, looking for a Dinosaur Jr. CD. After going over and over alphabetically with no luck, I realized they had a separate bin for the "punk rock" category. So I don't like getting more detailed than "popular".

My CDs are in two toy chests in the basement. I grab one once in a while.

Honestly, if it wasn't for my listening room with the traditional stereo rig, I wouldn't listen to them either. 95% of my music listening is streaming. And we listen to my digitized music on the beach. So the CDs and albums are just for listening on the stereo, although I tend to bring the new CDs into the car for a few spins first.

I hate this too. Don't separate punk, rap, metal, etc from the rock & pop.

Now that my car doesn't have a CD player, I listen to them much less. But I still buy them as a master copy and rip them, as long as I want the whole album (not just a song or two).

I had more ripped, but had a couple of hard drives die at the same time and lost a lot of MP3s.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR ARCHIVES IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE PEOPLE!!!!!
I still have a ton to re-rip, but never seem to find the energy to grab more than a couple at a time.

I did pretty much the same thing, but kept the broads CDs mixed in with the guys. :drums3:

Ohhhhhhhh........... I get it.

I had rock and punk together with the guitar god types at one end, jazz and classical together with the Enigma and "date night" music together. Electronic and industrial were together, and Rush had it's own case.

I still buy them as a master copy and rip them, as long as I want the whole album (not just a song or two).
That's what I try to do. I only rip full CDs. It's rare that I only buy one or two songs,

So this thread originally started out because I was posting the new water park that universal studios was making and then it became all about scotches awesome new home. Both things are cool.

So I'm going to talk about both right now.

First off scotch, do you have a generator attached to your house? You kind of seem like my aunt and uncle like you have it all together and you've got a great nice house and you guys take care of it and all that. Anyway. My aunt and uncle bought a generator that's tied directly into like the city gas line. So if a hurricane comes by their AC works they can run their oven. They can basically do everything kind of cool and I'm guessing that you might have something like that for winter storms.

Secondly, universal is building a third theme park and they're really given Disney a run for their money. It's called universal epic universe. The weird thing is that where is Disney has all their land connected. Universal has to build their shit like separately because they don't own one giant chunk of land. They own multiple chunks of land around the area. But anyway that doesn't matter. This new park is awesome. It's going to have Nintendo land. It's going to have monsters land. It's going to have some sort of Harry Potter land. Their second Harry Potter land and they're really moving fast on the construction. It's supposed to be open in 2025 and it looks like there will not be any delays.

Nintendo Land is basically the only thing that can sway me from Disney because I fucking love Nintendo the same way I love Disney.

Shigeru Miyamoto the way I see it is the closest thing we have to a living version of Walt Disney. Walt started out with cartoons and then made theme parks. Miyamoto created Mario and Zelda and now Nintendo has teamed up with universal to make theme parks and they're making movies now that Mario movie made like a billion dollars. It's kind of cool when creative guys get to the top of business and from everything I've read about him. He's like a really nice guy too, which makes it even better. There's a couple things about Walt Disney that people say weren't great, but those are disputed. There's basically nothing about miyamoto that people say isn't great. He's just like a lovely human being.
