Yes, the fact he did it as written made it funny. It was theoretically a request from the audience. I find it amazing he knew the lyrics and music by heart. I assume the request was a plant. But he did a different song 3 days prior in a concert in Ohio.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!

I didn't know anyone knew him besides me and a few LA people. He's really fun. The single podcast I pay for (The After Disaster and it's $50 per year and I've been listening to them for over a decade. They went paid like 3 years ago.) introduced me to Puddles years ago.

He has a sweet voice.

Weird Al, if you want to do a parody of I Am Woman, I wrote one for you. You can have it at no cost because it probably isn't worth anything.

"I am woman, what a joy
And I used to be a boy
To look at me, no one could ever tell
I lost my balls and tube
And got a brand-new pair of boobs
And now I'm really sexy, lookin' swell
Oh yes, I'm a woman
But it cost a lot of pain
It cost a lot of money too
But look at what I gained
I am strong
I am invincible
Same as always, except now
I'm a woman"

I can certainly see why you identify so easily with them.
I don't identify with them. I'm personally not a smoker of anything but cigars, and I don't smoke in public. What I'm saying is that they don't get arrested because what they're doing is generally considered favorable by the vast majority of concert-goers. It's like if they started ticketing everyone going 10 mph over the speed limit on the highways.

I understand you don't like it. I don't like motorcyclists with straight pipes. And I wish they'd all be arrested. But it doesn't appear like that's happening.

Hey, here's an idea. What if rock concerts weren't so fucking loud? They could still be loud, but not brain-damaging loud. Yet, since I've been going to concerts back in 1979, they're still too fucking loud. I don't see that getting any better, so I have to accept it.

I look at no drugs AND no alcohol as ideal.

I see people who occasionally drink (weddings, friends over for dinner, watching the world series with friends) as one small step down, but fine. I see casual drinkers (weekend beer drinkers) as another step down. I see regular drinkers (a couple beers after work most days, shots on the weekend) as bad. And alcoholics wrecking other people's lives as unacceptable.

I see needing a drug for a condition as a small step down from ideal but still fine. I see occasional recreational use as a step down. I see regular recreational use as bad. And addicts are unacceptable.

I believe pot is addictive. I had a friend who always said it's not addictive finally one day admit it was.
I understand you have your own personal concept of morality and right and wrong. But I realized a long time ago that judging other people on their personal preferences, or their predicament in life, is not the right thing to do. To be 100% honest, I know a person who claims never to have smoked or had a drink or owned a pet; and he's a royal fuck-up.

Several years ago, I got into a debate with Memebag about running the A/C in his Miata with the top down on a hot day. I thought it was a stupid thing to do, and he famously said "Why is my comfort any of your concern?".

So, while I have no negative bias against a "straight edge" kind of person, I look at drinking and recreational smoking as no different than indulging in enjoyable food. I'd no sooner look down on someone having a drink than I'd chide them for having an unnecessarily rich, generous meal at a restaurant. Really, what's the difference? Does Hectic really need to have a big steak once in a while? Or indulge in German sausages? No. But I'm happy for him when he does, because he's enjoying life, and he has it under control.

Likewise, anyone who keeps their drinking or smoking under control is fine with me. It shows that they are enjoying life. Just like music. I love people who love music. And while I don't golf or boat, I'm happy for people who do those things too. And yes, while I've argued that people have been smoking at concerts since the 60s, I have never initiated it, and would be fine if people decided to have a drink or take an edible instead.

I honestly don't understand why you'd care if other people have a drink every day. I have a drink every day. And I have a couple on most weekend days (I haven't had "shots" since I was in college). According to your rating system, that puts me several steps down as a human. But why? I have my own rules I live by. I will never have a drink while I'm on the clock at work (even though we used to go out and drink for lunch on Fridays in the old days). And I won't have more than a drink or two. And nothing when I'm driving.

And what exactly is "addictive"? When I don't feel well, I might go a week without a drink. But otherwise, I have a drink every day. I know people who are the same way with smoking. But yes, people can be addicted to a number of things, including marijuana. Of course, that's not good.

I love you you assume that it is acceptable by a vast majority. The number of assholes is usually minimal. And I notice a lot of people around me also annoyed by it. The reason they aren't ejected is more of logistics. They need to be caught and usually security is elsewhere. And likely unreported. I also would not report them since if they don't get ejected this leaves an awkward situation. But this does not change the fact that the minority that are doing this are assholes. Their comfort is greater than the discomfort of others. Definition of an asshole.

You are making an equivalence that all concert goers are stoned and toke up at concerts. Maybe that is true in New England or the 70s but not so much here. The fact it is a minority makes it more annoying. But the concert itself will either be loud or not. Not all concerts are loud. If I think one will be loud I bring ear plugs. How do I prevent the smell of some asshole smoking from hitting my nose?

I can't disagree if you say it's a small number at the concerts you go to. I don't go to many myself; my observation is a general one over the span of years. So I'll leave it alone.

My point about the loudness is that - more often than not - concerts are way louder than they should be, or need to be; and yet it's something I have to accept when I go to a live concert. Kind of like the ubiquitous (in my experience) smokers.

If this was the 1970s or 1980s yes. But, at least in Canada, there has been a heavy campaign against public smoking in workplaces and public events. Not just advertising but laws. Started in the 80s and has led to a decided swing in public opinion and public acceptance of smoking in public. I don't think that experience is ubiquitous up here any more.

Me too, honestly. I just consider it not ideal.
that puts me several steps down as a human
I don't feel that way. I just personally think it's better not to. In those "level 2" things I laid out above, I ended them both with how I think it's fine.
otherwise, I have a drink every day
People could say me having a soda or two each day is bad. Maybe even worse. And there are other subjects aside from alcohol and drugs where I don't consider my choices ideal, but they aren't "several steps as a person" down either. Like sugar. The nutritionist I used to see would be disgusted with my current diet. I realize it's not ideal but still choose to eat sweets almost every day. I'd put myself at "level 3". When I was dating, I'd say my old self was usual "level 2" and I went through a spell of "level 3" (being monogamous/honest/etc). I have to take an antibiotic for my skin condition, it's not ideal. I'd rather not need it. But I need it. So that's not "ideal - level 1".

Didn't mean to come across as "holier than thou" sorry!

Hey, how about I get this thread back on topic!

I realized I hadn't posted the 2nd concert we're seeing: Steve Miller Band at the same place on August 19th.
Seems only fair that the person that derailed it returns it to topic. :)

Steve Miller would be cool. I have looked at his shows several times but timing or price or location never worked for me.
