We saw Chilliwack and Steetheart on Friday @ Casino Rama (in Orillia). We stayed at the resort and had a good time. Turns out if you have a handicapped sticker the valet service is free for the hotel. A $30 value. Same with the bellhop service although I think that was free anyways. And free aside from tips of course. The concert was great. Both groups were fantastic. Streetheart lost their lead singer in 2017. The replacement sounded great and I could not tell it was not him. It also sounded very much like the released versions of the songs aside from it being live. He had a good stage presence and did alter the songs in places enough to know it was not lip synced. Chilliwack was also good. We had great seats and have the same seats for every show we have up there. The next one is Ringo Starr. My wife had never heard of Streetheart but had of Chilliwack. She was 19 years old and work at a radio station in WV and was lobbying the PD to play "My Girl (Gone, Gone. Gone)" cause she thought it would be a hit. The PD thought differently but eventually relented and it was a top 10 hit on that station (a testimony to my wife's stubbornness I am sure. :) ). He did concede she had a good instinct. I liked both bands but was more connected to Streetheart who had members from Regina, SK. We had a bit of a scare. When I bought the tickets over the phone last November, they said to go to the box office and pick up all the tickets on our first show. This was not the first show but was the first that did not get rescheduled. When I went to pick them up they could not find them. I had the receipt and they did find them. They had made a typo in my name. The receipt was correct which was weird. Next you Journey.

This stuff got old very fast. Journey postponed last 4 dates of their NA tour including Toronto. One of their members got COVID. I hope they don't reschedule into a conflict.

Despite despising Royal Blood's latest album, when they announced their opening act is Cleopatrick I bought a ticket to see them both in May.
Went to the show Tuesday night. Cleo was good, but not as good as seeing them headline. Overall tempo was slower, their sound level was too low, and the guitar was even lower. Still real good though. Royal was great. Seeing the disco songs live didn't make me start to like them. But the other songs were awesome.

It was the final night of their tour together. The two dudes from Cleo crowd surfed to Royal's last song of the night. I ended up palming the singers ass (so it wouldn't crash down on my face). Mosh pits kept starting here and there. I'm still a bit sore today (60 hours later) from being bumped into over and over (I wasn't in the pit, but I ended up on the edge of the circle several times, and helped people who fell get back up).

Was hoping to find myself in the video but don't see me

Tell yourself what you have to tell yourself. This is a judgement free zone.
But I did notice that you didn't mention where your thumb was while this was going on....... NTTAWWT

  • Ringo Starr [05/28 Orillia, ON]

So this concert was yesterday. And I know some of you are asking why is IRBS seeing Ringo Starr? Does he not know he was a Beatle? The answer is of course my wife wanted to go. We also took my son who had no recollection of telling me he wanted to go to this one. So I figured I would be 'entertained' with an evening of Beatles songs and Ringo solo songs. What I completely missed until yesterday was the fill name of the band "Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band". It turns out the all starrs were indeed all stars. He had Edgar Winter, the guitarist from Toto, Colin Hay from Men At Work and some guy from Average White Band (who looked like Frasier's dad on the show). And they each did some of the bigger hits from their band. Ringo was the oldest man on the stage @ 81 years old but he looked 45. He drummed for about 3/4 of the songs along side another drummer (drummer and sax player were studio musicians I think). It was a very entertaining show. I don't think I have ever seen a concert with that amount of talent on the stage. It was like seeing a concert for The Beatles, Toto, Men At Work, The Edgar Winter Group and Average White Band all in one night. Setlist is below. Lots of songs with no intermission (or encore).

1. Matchbox (Carl Perkins cover)
2. It Don't Come Easy (Ringo Starr song)
3. What Goes On (The Beatles cover)
4. Free Ride (The Edgar Winter Group cover) (with Edgar Winter)
5. Rosanna (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)
6. Pick Up the Pieces (Average White Band cover) (with Hamish Stuart)
7. Down Under (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)
8. Boys (The Shirelles cover)
9. I'm the Greatest (Ringo Starr song)
10. Yellow Submarine (The Beatles cover)
(Ringo leaves the stage)
11. Cut the Cake (Average White Band cover) (with Hamish Stuart)
12. Frankenstein (The Edgar Winter Group cover) (with Edgar Winter)
(Ringo returns)
13. Octopus's Garden (The Beatles cover) (Live debut)
14. Back Off Boogaloo (Ringo Starr song)
15. Overkill (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)
16. Africa (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)
17. Work to Do (The Isley Brothers cover) (with Hamish Stuart)
18. I Wanna Be Your Man (The Beatles cover)
19. Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry cover) (with Edgar Winter)
20. Who Can It Be Now? (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)
21. Hold the Line (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)
22. Photograph (Ringo Starr song)
23. Act Naturally (Johnny Russell cover)
24. With a Little Help From My Friends (The Beatles cover)

Our least favourite guest was the AWB guy. Although my son did spend a lot of time laughing at the way he moved around the stage. He said he looked like a giant chicken dancing. While the AWB music was vagueling familiar it was not something I am a fan of. Almost an instrumental with one line thrown in for no good reason.

I should add that the most mindblowing part of the evening for me was watching Colin Hay of Men at Work singing the lead vocals for the choruses of "Africa". It just struck me as something I would never see in my lifetime and yet I was seeing it.

I might also add that the sound was excellent. They all are excellent musicians. The only issue was for a bit of one of the songs, the sound guy was asleep at the switch and had the mic turned off for one of the singers during one chorus.

That does sound like a really good show.
I knew he did the all-star thing, but hadn't realized that the set would be so much fun.

Back in the day, Edgar Winter was amazingly talented.
I saw EW in Boston back in 1991. He was great. But yeah even back then he looked 90 years old.

my son did spend a lot of time laughing at the way he moved around the stage.
I rolled my eyes at the frontman of Royal Blood last Tuesday because he kept sticking his tongue way out. All I could think of was Bill The Cat.
