Concerts you have attended?

He hits the notes very nicely.
It's all about the Neal Schon show. There are even movie style credits at the end of the concert projected on the screen behind the stage. Every other name is Neal Schon!!!!!

So it turns out I was ultimately unable to change the tickets for either Journey or Elton John to wheelchair seats. So my wife will not be going to those ones. Taking my daughter to Elton John and one of her friends (she was already going) to James Taylor. I offered to buy my wife front row left wheelchair seat for Elton's next day concert (I would have bought a single ticket elsewhere) but my wife said she didn't want to see him $300 worth.

My son bought tickets to Imagine Dragons in August and invited me to go. I have listened to some of their stuff and its pretty good. Here is my favourite track from them so far:

  • James Taylor w/Jackson Browne [05/01 Toronto, ON]
  • Chilliwack & Streetheart [05/06 Orillia, ON]

  • Ringo Starr [05/28 Orillia, ON]
  • Miranda Lambert [06/02 Toronto, ON]
  • Bill Engvall [06/17 Orillia, ON] (comedian)
  • Mellisa Etheridge [06/18 Orillia, ON]
  • Martina McBride [06/24 Orillia, ON]

They can't be. They don't sound that bad.
I find them to be an inoffensive pop-rock group with a few catchy tunes, who've been inexplicably anointed as the only rock-like band to appear on the Hot 100. But (I believe) @sadchild refers to them on occasion as one of those bands that are classified as rock, but aren't. And it bugs him. But I should let him chime-in.

I put them in the classification of 3 Doors Down, Hoobastank, and yes, Nickelback, that have a few good tunes, but otherwise do nothing for me. I don’t begrudge others who listen to it, but just not my thing.

Imagine Dragons is @sadchild's favorite band!
I go away for a week and THIS HAPPENS?!

I like one of their songs. Most of the rest feel like the same song over and over. I find them very dull.

But I dislike Nickelback more (despite liking two of their songs, and no they weren't hits).

But I dislike The Doors more than probably every other successful act in history. Can't think of an act I like less.

I'm about to fire this one up:

It will be the first TAB show I watch with their new bassist, Dezron Douglas.

I still miss Tony Markellis. I love that he was such a big boy he had a stool for the shows. Bassists don't usually sit. But he was good enough that if he wanted a seat, he got a seat.

Interesting thing abut TAB is it's exactly that, Trey's band. While I dig all the players, if something happens with one of them, they can be replaced and the band can go on. Very different than Phish. Phish is the 4 guys. If Mike, Page, Trey or Jon decided to quit or died or something the band couldn't go on.

James Taylor and Jackson Browne were great. I liked Jackson's songs more although he only played a couple I recognized. I liked all his old stuff even though unfamiliar. It turns out he is still churning out new music. That was ok but not as good. James Taylor was funny. His music was good as well. And they did "Take It Easy" together in the encore (still my favourite song).

On the way home from the concert, after my James Taylor/Jackson Browne playlist was done, I let my son put on his music. Low and behold a Nickelback song came on. It wasn't that bad but then I told him about comments about Nickelback and Imagine Dragons on this board and he was less than impressed. lol

I found something just now that sums up why I (and many) dislike Nickelback:

"Haters ride Nickelback for being inauthentic, faking their way through uninspired, uncool post-grunge for purely commercial purposes"

Here's my 2009 review of their song "Never Gonna Be Alone"

Nickelback is that sleazy ex-boyfriend who, after causing you years of grief and heartache, uses every hackneyed pick-up line in the book to sweet-talk his way back into your pants. "Never Gonna Be Alone" is yet another "I shouldn't have spent the last three years boinking the babysitter and joking with friends about your IBS because I now realize you are my soulmate" power ballad loaded with maudlin regret, hokey promises, and insincere clichés.

Lead vocalist Chad Kroeger wails with such a feigned anguish, Jimmy Swaggart would be envious. Mutt Lange, the man who helped rockers like Def Leppard and Foreigner make the jump from headbangers to masters of the prom theme song, co-wrote and produced "Alone." His influence really shines through in this hundredth photocopy of Def Lep's "Love Bites." Each measure is filled with one blaring major chord and the verses consist of dull acoustic strumming over an unadventurous beat any 12-year-old drummer could play with his eyes shut. "Alone" embodies everything I hate about new millennium power ballads
. With more phony sap than a case of Aunt Jemima® Original Syrup, it's just one more fan-stroking sham of a love song that has nothing genuine to say, and no new way to say it. Nickelback makes Bon Jovi look like Megadeth.

It's least-common denominator juvinile commercial pop.
"Hey guys, find catch phrases that junior high school boys will think are naughty and will make them giggle, but won't be bad enough to keep the song off of the radio."
They could have actually gotten further if they only would have done that once or twice to get noticed and then gone on to write grown-up songs.

Not a concert but a comedian. Since its in a big arena, including it here. My son wanted to see Bill Burr. So he paid for his ticket, I paid for mine. Added to list below.

then gone on to write grown-up songs.
With their 2018 album, they seem to have done this. I like these two songs:

Nickelback - Feed The Machine.mp3
Nickelback - The Betrayal Act III.mp3

Let's see how it panned out, writing decent songs that have some substance (instead of trite ballads and 8th grade innuendo)

2001 Silver Side Up
"How You Remind Me" "Never Again"
6x Platinum

2005 All the Right Reasons
"Photograph" "Animals" "Rockstar"
10x Platinum (Diamond)

2008 Dark Horse
"Gotta Be Somebody" "Something in Your Mouth"
3x Platinum

2017 Feed the Machine
"Feed the Machine" "The Betrayal Act III"
*crickets*

Lesson learned: Write pandering bullshit
