In 1978, after having hits with Here You Come Again and Two Doors Down, Dolly Parton was accused of abandoning country music and "going pop." She told Country Music magaazine, "I couldn't go pop with a mouthful of firecrackers!" And then came Baby I'm Burnin', a 12-inch disco single pressed on pink vinyl. It reached #48 on the country chart, #25 on the Hot 100 and #15 on the disco chart. POP!!!!!

A channel changer is a song that someone hates so much, he switches to another channel or station as soon as he hears it begin. For me, that includes (among others) Brick House, Brass Monkey, Brown Eyed Girl, I'm Too Sexy, Sweet Home Alabama, Old Time Rock & Roll, Play That Funky Music, almost everything by Pink Floyd, everything by Wilson Pickett, everything by Little Richard, everything by Pearl Jam (except for their remake of J. Frank Wilson's Last Kiss) and more than two thousand rap songs.

I agree with you on the rap songs. But the other songs are classics to me. Except for Last Kiss which I don't like but don't change the channel.

My most notable channel changers:
  • Horse With No Name
  • Endless Love
  • You Don't Bring Me Flowers
  • I Shot The Sherriff
  • Anything by Whiney Houston
  • Anything by Paula Abdul

Here is the original version of I'm Gonna Make You Love Me by Madeline Bell. It reached #25 on the Hot 100 and #32 on the R&B chart in April 1968. She released seven singles and this was her only solo chart hit. From 1969 to 1973 she was a member of Blue Mink, a British sextet that had a #64 U.S. hit in October 1970 with Our World.

I hate Old Time Rock & Roll because Seger screams it instead of singing it. Connie Francis, whose sixteen 1950s-60s top-ten hits include Who's Sorry Now, My Happiness, Lipstick On Your Collar, Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Where The Boys Are, Don't Break The Heart That Loves You and My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own, recorded Old Time Rock & Roll for her album Where The Hits Are, released September 21, 1989. The song was a poor choice for her – but at least she didn't scream it.
