John Lennon's #9 Dream peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 in February 1975. (That is not the only amazing chart-related coincidence of the year. On the November 22 Hot 100, Pete Wingfield's Eighteen With A Bullet was #18 with a bullet.) R.E.M.'s remake of #9 Dream stalled at #101 on the Bubbling Under chart in March 2007. It failed to make the mainstream rock chart or the alternative rock chart but it reached #28 on the adult alternative airplay chart.

32. Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi

Example of where I like the cover (Counting Crows) better than the original.

4. Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good

Example of where I like the original better than the cover. VH2 was a disappointment in my opinion. "Dance" and the last 3 songs are the only ones I listen to.

Glen Campbell's It's Only Make Believe is a remake of a 1958 number-one hit by Conway Twitty. The song was written by Twitty and Richard Jackson "Jack" Nance, who played drums and piano – not at the same time, of course – in Twitty's band from 1958 to 1960. It's Only Make Believe was one of six songs they co-wrote that appeared on Twitty's 1959 debut album, Conway Twitty Sings. This features Floyd Cramer on piano and the Jordanaires on background vocals.

Here is the Tempations' original version of (I Know) I'm Losing You, which went to number one on the R&B chart and #8 on the Hot 100 in December 1966 – and lead singer David Ruffin didn't need to use an echo chamber like Rare Earth lead singer Peter Rivera would use on the remake.

Cracklin' Rosie was Neil Diamond's first number-one hit. He wrote it about a wine, Cracklin' Rose, produced by Harbor Ridge Winery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, Here is the story (which misspells the name of the wine as Crackling Rose):

Cracklin' Rosie was Neil Diamond's first number-one hit. He wrote it about a wine, Cracklin' Rose, produced by Harbor Ridge Winery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, Here is the story (which misspells the name of the wine as Crackling Rose):

Well then, that explains this lyric, which I always thought I misheard:

"Cracklin' Rose you're a store-bought woman"
