My notes:

2015:
Sam Smith (winner) - was pretty popular for a while
Iggy Azalea - another big name with the pop crowd
Bastille - they're pretty big on AC radio, good stuff
Brandy Clark - don't know
Haim - an indie girl group I featured in my favorites

2016:
Meghan Trainor (winner) - 1 hit wonder
Courtney Barnett - should be the winner, one of my top favorites
James Bay - popular AC ballad crap
Sam Hunt - don't know
Tori Kelly - don't know

Chance the Rapper (winner) - very popular
Kelsea Ballerini - don't know
The Chainsmokers - other than their hit with Coldplay, don't know
Maren Morris - heard the name, don't know

2018:
Alessia Cara (winner) - I think she sings in some TV commercial
Khalid - the DJ, very popular, not my thing
Lil Uzi Vert - who?
Julia Michaels - don't know
SZA - probably should know, but don't

2019:
Dua Lipa (winner) - big name with the pop crowd

H.E.R. - ?
Margo Price - ?

Kaytranada - ?

2022:
(winner to be decided)
Arooj Aftab - ?
Jimmie Allen - ?
Baby Keem - ?
Finneas - ?
Glass Animals - must be a mistake, they had a platinum-selling album in 2014, with hits Black Mambo and Gooey. I see they have a 2020 hit too.
Japanese Breakfast - a WAY overhyped indie artist, mentioned in my SiriusXMU top songs of 2020.
The Kid Laroi - ?
Arlo Parks - great indie artist with a great voice, featured in my favorites
Olivia Rodrigo - yes, we all know about her
Saweetie - heard the name

There really has been a lot of prepackaged drivel getting to the top over the last several years.
As I've said before, we live in a different world than back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, when everyone listened to a common set of radio broadcasts, and bought mainstream albums. Now, with all the ways one can get music, this list of pop artists represents a sliver of the music world, and is driven by a weird set of factors. It's not for us anymore.

Meghan Trainor (winner) - 1 hit wonder
...subjectively (six top 40s, but I agree, only really known for one)
The Chainsmokers - other than their hit with Coldplay, don't know
Had a stupid top 20 hit in 2016 called "Selfie". A modern version of Zappa's "Valley Girl" kinda.
Maren Morris - heard the name, don't know
Stern loves her.
Anderson .Paak - don't know
I knew him in 2014 as someone who recorded with Watksy (rapper) as his producer. He also played drums for Watsky too (and is incredible at them!) Then a couple years later, he blew up with Grammy awards and collabs with Dr Dre, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar. Didn't see that coming!
Noah Cyrus - I think I've heard one song from him/her
Related to Miley
Doja Cat - know the name
The 'french fries up the nose' girl I've ranted about a couple times on here

Kaytranada - ?
The only thing I know about this artist is his 2016 video for "Lite Spots" which has a cool dancing robot.
Finneas - ?
Billie Eilish's brother. He produces her songs.

The Recording Academy announces new changes to one of the award show's most controversial categories, explicitly allowing artists with sizable catalogs to be eligible

I guess they felt left out of the "asinine stupidity" realm, that the Billboard 100 and RRHOF have entered.

Out of all the winners, I'm happy for Bonnie Raitt and Brandi Carlile; the rest mean nothing to me. And I prefer most of your choices; but then again, I could just turn on any of the radio services I listen to, and pick whatever song is playing, and it would be infinitely better than any of the Grammy winners.

I’m disappointed that I did not get to hear them say that the Grammy for best new artist goes to Wet Leg.
Because that would have sounded funny.

I had the telecast on mute while I watched a movie on my phone. I recognized a few people but wouldn’t have known any of the songs.

Abba was nominated for something. I guess they’re still making music?

Voyage, released in November 2021, was ABBA's first new studio album since 1981. I Still Have Faith In You, written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, was released as a single and was a top-ten hit in five countries, including ABBA's native Sweden, but failed to chart in the United States. It was nominated for a Grammy for record of the year.

Someone chose a Wet Leg song during that 'name the song' party game I've been playing lately. It was the exact same few words over and over for the whole 30 second clip. I wanted to stab my ears with oyster forks to make it stop.

A quick search today and it turns out it's their award winning song I couldn't stand.

They have a whole bunch of good songs from that album. Try any of these:
Wet Dream
Ur Mum
Too Late Now
Angelica

In any case, they're not targeting the Rush 2112 crowd. It's just silly fun music.
