Sad to hear this. I love Artie. I miss him. But never cared for his stories about himself as a lowly longshoreman. He was too brilliant for the blue collar shtick. Hated his famous performance on the Joe Buck talk show. The profanity was excessive and did not fit in. He seemed hostile toward the athletes he was talking about. He was best and Howard was best when they were a team.

Saw Artie on Seth Meyers last night. Best I can sum-up is to say it made me uncomfortable. He's clean now (nothing wrong with that), but he's got this really unhealthy-looking pasty fatness, and his voice is so gravelly, it's hard to listen. He also sported a cheesy hair dye job.

All his bits and stories revolved around how utterly fucked-up he was, to the point that it went from being funny to sad and unrelateable to us non-strung-out folk. I also felt bad for Meyers, who tried his best to move the bit along, as Artie's stories often had no real conclusion or punch-line.

I thought the only good bit was Artie's impression of Mike Tyson as a GPS navigation voice.

i enjoy hearing art talk about being a big mess. he makes if fun and funny. about his appearance, the thing i noticed the most was the fact that he had a clean shave. its rare for art to look that way.

as for his topics the coke face bit is something ive seen him done a bunch of times. the tyson bit was ok but didnt really get me. to me this was not his best appearance by any means but still worth a shot.

huh, i totally disagree. i loved art on the joe buck hbo show. because it came off as semi hostile and so out of place i thought that made it so great. also i dig art talking about being blue collar. it seems that even now with tons of money he still has that mentality and its nice to see him not change.

I thought he did OK. There have been better and worse appearances for him.
He's looking better, but I was shocked that he's younger than me. If he can stay clean and drop some pounds, it'll be good for him. I'm kind of taking his stories about how he abused himself as somewhat interesting, and somewhat therapeutic for him. It's good to see that he's open about his mistakes.

If the interview teaches anything, it's "Drugs are bad. Mmmm Kay?"

Ya, having heard most of his radio show, the various appearances, tweets, and his hour on comedy central (where he played some clips of his upcoming special) I think I've heard most if not all the wacky stories of the past 3 years. The clips he played from the special were cringe worthy to be honest. Depending on how this special goes I will either spend less time checking in or stay at the level I'm at now, which is more or less watching someone pretend to enjoy straight life in order to crash and burn again and finally do himself in completely. A train wreck about to take place.

if u follow artie like i do, meaning watch all his appearances/read his twitter/listen to his sports talk show then a solid 30-40% of the special were bits that he has done before. the other 60% was very good and worth watching.

I watched the first 45 minutes. There are so many commercials on cable now it's hard to take. I heard all the gags except for two in that time. It was fine. Good if you haven't checked in on Artie since he went nuts. Artie Lange for the masses man.

i read these artie tweets yesterday and thought they were pretty funny...

» I Think Artie Lange Has A Crush On First Take Host Cari Champion, Says He Wants To Pretend To Be Thomas Jefferson And She His Slave Barstool Sports – Chicago

the blog poster does make a good point though. its fascinating that no one got upset about it. i think its a good thing cause its just a comedian being funny but people get upset about a lot less. and art is still a pretty big name. people a lot less famous get called out about stupid shit like this.

DVR is your friend. The only commercials my family watches is during live sports. We record everything and start watching after 15 minutes and never see a commercial.

oh also an artie news note he will be on at midnight tomorrow! with jim norton. should be a good show.

Looks like the baby Gorilla is back on the sauce.

i said in the original post of this topic that his twitter rants have been really funny. they did get me thinking that they might be drunk or high tweets though. sometimes he will rant for like an hour and 20-50 tweets all a min or two apart.

They're now telling me I can't appear on @Midnight tonight cause of the pressure they're getting from these groups.

I'm a comedian. Sometimes I'm funny! For the record my moms disgusted w the tweets. But if I based my humor on my mom I'd be broke

Tricky question. I would rather load trucks for a living then ever apologize to one of these awful PC groups ruining the country

I won't debate if the tweets were funny. That could take minutes of precious time left in my career. The issue is do they warrant an apology

I tweeted jokes that in the past I would've said in privately in my home among friends. I know black women who could join me and handle it

I then thought it would be funny to tweet JOKES about that observation. A decision which might be the end of modern comedy

This observation came while I was watching one of my favorite tv shows ESPNs First Take. I also noticed she was black.

I'm about to tweet a few things I can't believe have to be explained in a rational world. I observed that @CariChampion was a gorgeous lady

Poor Baby Gorilla.

He should have stuck with telling the jokes privately, among friends, like he said he used to do.

From working on the Stern show. he should know how crazed people get and how the court of public opinion can ruin your career. Trust me, he'd rather be doing comedy than loading trucks...poser.

What's really funny is I think that in his head for the roleplay fantasy, the fact that she took control of him somehow made it all...okay.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa...stop the clock, Artie. Antebellum South Slavery Fantasies are not going to work in any way on Twitter.
