up until today the new keurig machine was the heaviest thing i got with the free prime shipping. this afternoon the UPS man dropped off a giant box containing a 40 lb bag of cat litter and a 16 lb bag of urinary tract cat food. it just feels good to get a 56 lb package shipped to me at no extra cost.

Amazon's $13.7 billion deal for Whole Foods crushes stocks of supermarkets

In early trading following Amazon's entry into the food-selling business, shares of Walmart tumbled more than 6%, making it the biggest loser in the blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average. Target shares plunged more than 10%. Costco shares were down more than 7%. Supermarket chains also took big hits, with Kroger down more than 13% and Supervalu down nearly 16%. Sprouts Farmers Market, which gets roughly 60% of its sales selling fresh produce, was off more than 11%.

Whole Foods is in deep trouble. Grocery stores are in deep trouble. Aldi is taking their money and Lidl is about to start doing the same. Bezos' tech won't be enough to fix Whole Foods.

My wife bought 2 pounds of hamburger at Whole Foods last week. It was $20.

In Phoenix there are:

5 Whole Foods
9 Trader Joe's

another chain similar to them is called AJ's Fine Foods and there dozen of them scattered in the valley and of coarse all of those grocery stores listed above are only in the nice parts of the valley.

Amazon is always thinking up neat and weird stuff. Likely one of a billion patents that will never amount to anything but it's still fun to think about.

Each year UPS saves 28.5 million miles from their fleet of trucks by limiting the number of left hand turns that drivers make on their routes.
