HOLY FUCK! So this shit worked. IDK abt soundcloud or audio uploads or whatever but I wanted to share with you all one of my chats w my dad that I recorded.

Here is like a chat from like 2018 or so. We talk abt his parent's first cars (weird ass models us Americans never heard of) and the war and their cars after the war back in Holland.

Dude!!! the old man's got a killer accent...I swear I never heard it when he was alive. He just sounded like a normal American to me.

Fuck dude, this shit was kinda emotional to listen to. You're all like my internet friends so I wanted to share. I got a bunch more recordings like this that get into deeper concentration camp talk so maybe I'll post those next.

But who is the lady interviewing him? ;)

Ha! You think I sound like a pussy in this one, wait for the others. I cringe at how much of a dik I was interrupting him when he was discussing major shit in history he actually lived through with my asinine comments.

I have old tapes that myself, my sister & mom & dad made. My mom came up with the idea we should record a little 5-10 minutes summary of our year on New Year's Eve or thereabouts. She called it "As The Years Go By". It was really weird hearing my voice back then. Once year my voice drops like 2 octaves. In 1978 and 1979 I decided it would be cool to put music in the background (the left channel). Now sounds pretty weird. We did them until about 1985. I digitized these a couple of years ago. I will not share.

I'll try to listen tomorrow, my office mate has the day off. That's when I catch up on podcasts and whatnot.

As for my personal recordings, I have two main sets.

1983: Living in Portsmouth NH. Wrote and recorded 6 songs with my friends using a Casio keyboard. Lyrics are about the old grumpy neighbor, a dork who lived in our neighborhood, and being the world's most badass 12 year old badasses to ever badass. Bonus footage of us yelling random stuff. If you listen close to the end, you can hear one of my friend's grandmother chastise us. I had our voices blasting out of the speakers and the windows were open, so I guess the entire neighborhood could hear our non-stop stream of swearing.

1984 to 1986, then 1989 to 1995: Lynnfield MA. We invented our own "radio station" and did skits (like Monty Python, Weird Al, etc). "Interviews" with Boy George, Michael Jackson, a whore who converted into a lesbian, a gay man from Cambodia. Song titles: "Sperm In Five Colors", "Beat Off", "VD", "Man In A Dress". Spoofs of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Inspector Gadget.

Way too offensive to ever put online.

That's awesome! Some of my older relatives sounded a lot like that, with a Yiddish/ German/ Polish accent.

Yea right? He sounds like an old Jew. Maybe that's how all old school Europeans sound to me? I think I'm in the midst of being racist here so tell me if that's wrong.

But man I am not kidding, I 100% did not hear that strong accent when he was living. I listen to those tapes now and think I was a freakin moron...he's clearly a European dude. Well honestly he was more American that you and me. He came here in the 50's and spent like 60+ years as a legal citizen.

Kinda like Laura. Coming to this country...land of the free, home of the brave. and just making shit happen.

When I talk to my sister - still living in North Jersey - she sounds like Carmella Soprano. I never heard it growing up, and never considered that I once sounded like that.

I listened to the first few minutes and it really was fascinating. I really want to listen to more of it.

Thanks man, that's nice. Old man had stories...I'm not making all that shit up abt the war.

It really happened and people suck like Goreds said in the lefty thread.

That's really cool. It's nice to have a connection to the people you cared abt the most after they are gone.

Way to go Idrather mom...good call.

Welp, I'm single again.

On Wed she came over and we wound up having a really bad fight where some really mean things were said by both of us. I don't think there's any coming back from this one. Surprisingly I'm not really that upset. We had a fight about a month in where she didn't talk to me for a couple days and I was way more torn up about that. I guess while I did really dig her, and she was nice to me, the longer we were together the less I saw it as a rest of our lives type thing...which at 38 is kinda what I'm in the market for at the moment.

Ehh...on to the next one. I am down a pair of shoes though. Sketchers I really liked and left them at her place. I'd like to get them back. The watch I mentioned here was a gift so I never expected that back and hope she can enjoy it.

If you do decide to change your mind, the shoes would be a good way to go back without being too forward. "Excuse me, I just came to pick up my shoes."

you guys are saying this is all sad and thanks for that but im a bit sad but not nearly as sad as i thought this would be.

i dont love being single but im moving on to the next one...probably a rebound, i got one or 2 lined up...but ill find the one eventually. Im getting old, im aware of that, but i still got years in me before i really gotta worry abt that. hendrik was 56 before he met maryann.

I was 37 when I met my wife.

Also until I was about 35 I had no luck with the ladies. Then I decided I didn't care and being single had its advantages. Then they started coming out of the woodwork. Girls sense desperation and I think they also sense when a guy is happy alone and can't allow that to happen. Can't prove the last part but I am sure they discuss it in their secret meetings.

Edited to correct my math.
