Adventures In Koopland

Brunch is done. Brunch was more of an all day affair of people streaming in and out. In total there were 12 people but the most at one time was 10. It went from about 10 am until 6 pm. I think her siblings like me. I'm tired.

We just got back from our XMas festivities.
Lots of good food and friends. I'm kinda tired too, but think I may watch a couple more episodes of Band of Brothers.

Good God I guess I hadn't thought about how 3 and 4 year olds pretty much attempt to piss in a toilet but wind up pissing on the floor. Shit was a mess. Thankfully the beautiful lady took care of that. It's also really weird when you're in the bathroom and a 3 year old walks in on you. I was smart enough to put my vape and computer in a drawer they couldn't reach and I thought I was so intelligent for thinking of that. Little did I know what else was to come.

The 4 year old really liked the toys. We were playing helicopters and it was fun. There is a major gap between 3 and 4. I could hang with the 4. The 3 was still very much a baby...but a real cutie.

Overall they were good kids.

Beautiful lady did all the morning cooking so I did all the dishes and trash. Took about 90 mins. Then I took a quick couch nap and now I'm back home. This was a very good day.

The lady managed to crowbar into conversation with her family...a few times...how I bought her a diamond cross for Sinterklaas Day and even bigger diamond earrings for Christmas. That made me feel good.

I think I can build a life and family with this girl. We'll see how it goes in 2020 but all signs are pointing to major events in my future.

f they are passing around mimosas

Hah. Good call. I was in charge of popping the champagne bottles. The making/distribution of mimosas was split between she and I. I had one all day at around 12 pm. I've learned my lesson. I'm a good boy.

I love that show. I was watching it for probably the 5th time a few weeks ago. The winter foxhole battle episode is really something. Also the episode where they are welcomed into Holland as kings has a personal connection that makes me feel good. There is some quote like, "They all speak English and they love us, who needs London?". Hah. Nice.

The title is Breaking Point. It's the episode after Bastogne. It's epic and still kinda gets me tense. I try to watch the entire box set each Christmas break. (Odd tradition, I know.)

I saw the box set for The Pacific when I was shopping a few days ago. I may go back and get it. Pacific isn't as awesome as BOB, but it's still really good, and was the first time I noticed Rami Malek as the stand-out actor he is.

So the girl is at work and I, for no particular reason, decided to drive down to her place (20 miles away btw) and drop these at her door for when she gets home:

Flowers are part of my weekly budget these days.

I'm sweet goddamnit.

Update: she was very happy with my gesture yesterday. The Creole on the envelope was a big hit. Suck it Hectic. I only stalk you. Haha.

Headline to the post: WORK FIGHT!!!

So, I've mentioned that I'm the "Team Lead" or 3rd in charge of our account. Usually that means that I am the head of the second shift that consists of only 4 people and we are all friends, like we hang out after work and I am literally intimate with one of them.

But on Saturdays I am the boss of 10 people. This one woman who is like 45 (I always feel weird having to discipline adults, let alone adults older than I) is a seasonal worker. Those workers usually stay till about February. Well this one has called out multiple times, always stands up at her desk, is LOUD (a major issue with me that I have addressed with her privately in the past) is way more physically animated than anyone else and simply doesn't seem to care.

Well today this woman shows up late (of course) and then in the first hour of work decides to leave her desk twice to do God knows what. Then she decides to make instant coffee at her desk...BTW/we are not supposed to eat at our desks. I let it slide with others who do it covertly but come on now. She whipped out a huge ziplock of sugar had an open container of boiling water and was mixing the coffee.

I FINALLY HAD ENOUGH.

So I asked her not to do that her desk. I ask her to do it in the break room. She says no. What The Fuck? She knows I'm the boss on Saturdays.

Now I need to give you all a little aside here. I am a very lax Team Lead. I let tons of shit slide with my night team because they are all super competent at their jobs and they make my life easy. This may bleed over to Saturdays so that's on me. I need to know how to better keep control on that day. There is another permanent worker on Sat who is loud and slightly disrespectful that I am playful with and I really should probably be more firm with that person. What I am saying is I am not blameless here. I need to be better.

Aside over.

So this woman says no to me? It was time to take a stand. This is the hill I'm dying on. I decided to address her in front of the group. I figured that would send a message to the other seasonals along with that permanent I mentioned above. I tell her that she can not do that at her desk. She decides to continue to fight me. So then I bring up how she was late, AGAIN, and left her desk twice. Then she cries about not having a car. I tell her that while I understand that is a hardship, she knew where the office was when she decided to take the job. She then says that the residual allergens on my clothing from Athena makes her have allergy attacks and that is why she had to leave her desk. I tell her if she is unable to work 10 feet away someone who has a pet at home that is an issue that must be addressed. She leaves it alone then. Meanwhile this is a huge office. We were both upset but not yelling or anything like that but the account next to ours could def hear us. I leave it with she can not make coffee at her desk and if her allergy issues are so bad I will get up to get her tissues, all she needs to do is ask.

I was fucking pissed. But that's where it ended.

By then end of the shift things were back to normal. The woman and I were having normal work discussions and small talk but it took a few hours to get there.

Here is where I feel like a rat. I emailed our Account Manager. The #1 boss, and gave her a rundown of what happened. I was very nice about this woman. Part of the email, and exact quote, was "we had a brief, civil, yet somewhat heated exchange" about the issues. Thing is, because I am technically a manager I figured I better let the big boss know what went down. If she heard about it from someone other than me first it probably wouldn't look good for me. Whatever, I like my night team who makes my life easy. I'm not used to this. While I am totally fine with the work fight we had, I'm not all that proud of having to alert the big boss.

Oh and I threw the cat thing into the email because the big boss has like 3 cats so I knew that would help my cause. Big boss didn't reply to my email during the shift.

Fucking work stress. At least I have 2 days off now. Let's see what happens...if anything...when I get back on Tuesday.

As a manager you can deal with an issue without having to report it up. The only time you would need to report it would be if it was unresolved or had some impact outside that they should be aware. It sounds like this was not the case. I would not have escalated. Other than that you handled it well.

But on the other hand, what if upper management finds out she's been out a lot and thinks he's covering it up?
