"Where The Story Ends" is a great song! It's one of a hundred I've rediscovered thanks to SXM.
That "Summertime" song is nice, but reminds me of a song I had in my head when I woke up this morning (coincidentally). LA Guns "It's Over Now"
The other song The Sundays are really well known for is their great cover of Rolling Stones "Wild Horses".

Holy crap! I had no idea! I wouldn't have guessed it was in his top 30 most-streamed songs! I can't even get the melody in my head looking at the title!
I was just as surprised to find out Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" and "I Want To Break Free" are so popular these days. I wouldn't have put those in their 30 most-streamed either. I barely heard either of those two from my days growing up right into the 2000s.

Was it played a lot in the 80s and 90s? I barely remember ever hearing it until recently.
But I sure heard Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Another Bites The Dust, Somebody To Love, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Bicycle Race, Fat Bottomed Girls and Under Pressure a hundred or more times each.

"Don't Stop Me Now" was not really known to me until I saw Queen (with Adam Lampart) about 10 years ago. I have heard it more on radio in last couple of years. But the other ones get much more airplay.
David Armand (real name: David Whitehead), a British actor/comedian who has been a regular on several television series, does the most amazing interpretive dances. Many are on YouTube. Here he is miming to Don't Stop Me Now:
Mrs. Scotch made a similar comment when she heard it recently, perhaps in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie. She said something like "was that an original Queen song?", meaning that she didn't really notice when it originally came out. But for some reason, she hears it a lot now.
So here's why:
- It was used in 2004's Shaun of the Dead.
- In Britain, the band McFly had a number 1 single covering the song in 2006.
- The song was performed on a 2013 episode of Glee. IMO, this is where the resurgence started.
- The Toronto Blue Jays play it after every home win (perhaps at hockey games too).

Yes the Jays also play it. But home wins were so rare this year, I forgot.
I should clarify it is used after AHL Toronto Marlies games. It is rotated in some fassion with"I Feel Good". The Toronto Maple Leafs play "Right Back WHere We Started From" by Maxine Nightingale.

I saw a newsmagazine piece about it a few months ago. That's how I found out. You have to hand it to him; he wrote some pretty fucking good songs, and he's one of the best contemporary pianists around.
Interesting video. I'm not sure all the references preceded the originals, but it shows how Joel has reinvented himself many times.
Two other things to note about the video:
- I also feel that the classical-sounding keyboard riff in "Pressure" has to be from some common 1800's melody.
- The "Succession" thing is interesting. I always figured the theme was clearly some classical music standard composition. I never realized some guy claimed to have composed it for the show. Perhaps he was just an "arranger".
I gather he’s calling Billy Joel derivative. I get it, but total respect for Billy Joel and his career. Try writing one hit song or album, much less countless hits.
The Eagles also get that label, but I’m thinking 99+% of musicians who ever lived would sell their soul to have written One of These Nights, Hotel California, or Desperado, whether they care to admit that or not.
Led Zeppelin also, people mock them for having “borrowed” the Stairway riff. But look what they did with it. The original group had this one thing repeating mostly over and over, an instrumental. Led Zeppelin turned it into 8 minutes of an all-time classic. I would love to know what Spirit thought the first time they heard Stairway, were they focused on hey that’s our riff, or were they mind blown by what Led Zeppelin did with it.
