80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Several people have danced with themselves. The routine is known as a half-and-half dance and goes back to the days of Vaudeville. Frank Cullen’s Vaudeville Old & New: An Encyclopedia Of Variety Performers explains: “Almost always a dance act, in a half-and-half act a solo performer was costumed and made up to appear as both a man and a woman. He appeared male as he faced the wings on one side of the stage and then female as he turned toward the opposite side of the stage." Here is an example from 2014:

And this half-and-half dance from the 1951 movie Paris After Midnight includes the fake head of a man. Is that cheating?

popular on my town's old Urban station.
It shocked me when I learned "Candy Girl" wasn't a top 40. I thought that song was huge back in the day.
Their 1982 song Pass The Dutchie was adapted from the Mighty Diamonds' Pass The Kouchie

Billy Idol
Dancing With Myself
One of the biggest "I Can't Believe It's Not A Top 40" songs - right up there with "Words" "I Melt With You" "Home Sweet Home" "Message In A Bottle" "Solsbury Hill" "What I Like About You" "Games Without Frontiers" "Centerfield" "Good Times Roll" and "Tiny Dancer"

Those are all surprising. But at least they cracked the Hot 100.

Here are a few more surprises that never cracked the Hot 100

Talking Heads "Road to Nowhere"
Peak #105

"God Gave Rock And Roll To You" was a top 10 hit around the world, but didn't chart in the US. And we'll never know if was a Bubbling Under song because Billboard didn't do that chart from 86-91

Pearl Jam
#107 "Alive"
#108 "Even Flow"

Louis Armstrong "What A Wonderful World"
Peak #116

Lemonheads "Mrs Robinson"
Peak #118

Fixx "Red Skies"
Peak: #101

David Bowie "Ashes To Ashes"
Peak: #101

It was a #1 R&B hit too. I remember hearing it quite a bit.
