October 1980 is obvious. Queen

That's what I thought. So did my friend's kid. And my friend's friend. But we're all one week off!

Correct order:

ONJ "Magic" #97
Christopher Cross "Sailing" #96
Diana Ross "Upside Down" #4
Queen "Another One Bites" #2
Babs "Woman In Love" #1
Kenny Rogers "Lady" #6

white: listed as 'earlier' or 'later'
green: my candidates
brown: missing from my list

A minor point to my 1980 post that is wrong that would probably nobody else here but me:

The bottom 60: debuts and/or former or future #1 songs.
(83) 97. MAGIC - OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN **

I had incorrectly marked "Magic" as NOT a former #1 song.

Good 7
Okay 10
Bad 23

Pretty sure a lot of those "okays" used to be "bads" seven years ago. I'm really softening up on these songs.

35: COULD I HAVE THIS DANCE - ANNE MURRAY

33: HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT - PAT BENATAR

Alan said Pat doesn't play this one live in concert anymore because something about gun violence. WTF? It's a metaphor! Doesn't she understand her own songs?

18: LATE IN THE EVENING - PAUL SIMON

They played Nina's intro to "Lady" at #6 for this one. Then played the same clip again in the right place.

2: ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST - QUEEN

All three of us thought it was this one. We were one week off.

#90 Jim Hurt "I Love Women"

She said at a concert I saw her do that she doesn’t like the way it makes women subservient to men, or something like that. (That women don’t have power or control over their relations.) That was several years ago. I think she said she can’t sing the line about “knock me down, see if I care” so she would hold the mic out to the audience to sing.

Personally, I think she’s really tired of singing it.

Ditto.

My 333? Almost! Actually no, not even close.

Which thread?

- I Can't Believe It's Not A Top 40 (no, because I can believe it!)
- Slam! Reviews that PWN (no, but if I can find a review of it, I'm sure it'll fit!)
- Are they (artists with two hits) a one-hit wonder? (nope, I don't think he has one hit, forget two)

Oh wait, I see it now. On my way over there......

I'd like to nominate IRBS for a DRC Award – if such an award exists – for starting the most threads on a single day.

Comments:
  • There are a lot of established artists on the list.
  • Six debuts this week, but none of the bubbles entered the 100.
  • @sadchild mentioned "Ashes to Ashes" last week - Oct 18, 2022
  • "Uptown" is my fav on the list.

For all you "Bubbling Under" fans in the audience, this song holds the record for most weeks at #101 – seven – without ever making it to the Hot 100:

I pulled together the full saga a little while ago. "Nasty Girls" also held the #102 for five non-consecutive weeks and the #7 position on the R&B chart for four weeks. A wild ride indeed!
