80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Our generation's R. Kelly.
He had a bad drug habit to boot. It's a shame because he was a fantastic musician.

One thing he wasn't good at was acting. The beginning of his video for "Glow" is so awful it's hilarious.

I was wondering what other "17" songs are out there and these two immediately came to mind.
Let's go below 17?

16

Ringo Starr "You're Sixteen"
You're all ribbons and curls
Ooh, what a girl
Eyes that sparkle and shine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine

15

Depeche Mode "A Question Of Time"
I've got to get to you first, before they do
...
Well, now you're only fifteen, and you look good
..
I can see them now, hanging around
To mess you up, to strip you down
And have their fun with my little one

14

Donovan "Mellow Yellow"
I'm just mad about fourteen
Fourteen's mad about me

13

Mothers Of Invention (Zappa) "Brown Shoes Don't Make It"
You see in the back of the City Hall mind
The dream of a girl about thirteen
Off with her clothes and into a bed
Where she tickles his fancy all night long
His wife's attending an orchid show
She squealed for a week to get him to go
But back in the bed his teenage queen
Is rocking and rolling and acting obscene

12

Sublime "Wrong Way"
Annie's twelve years old, in two more, she'll be a whore
Nobody ever told her it's the wrong way
...
A cigarette pressed between her lips
But I'm staring at her tits, it's the wrong way
Strong if I can, but I am only a man
So I take her to the can, it's the wrong way
...
We talk all night, tried to make it right
Believe me, shit was tight, it was the wrong way

Let's hope no songs have gone earlier than this, it's already disgusting.

#102 Art of Noise "Close (To The Edit)" (peaked at this position)
Great song!

These lyrics were particularly bad:

This young girl, this sweet thing, I just can't wait
No, I mustn't do this, she's almost jailbait!

Sorry Rick, 17 is jailbait....

I was wondering what other "17" songs are out there and these two immediately came to mind.

Ideally that Stray Cats song was written from the perspective of a high schooler, which makes it a little less bad. You can add Sublime 'Wrong Way' to the list of songs that really didn't....ahem....age well!

Led Zeppelin
"The Ocean"
"Now I'm singing all my songs to the girl who won my heart
She is only three years old and it's a real fine way to start"

Thankfully he's referring to his daughter.

A friend of mine and I had a discussion on "Sweet Child of Mine". He maintained (I think clearly incorrectly) that this was a guy singing to an underage girl. I maintained it was a song to his daughter.

Sweet Child is another inspiration vs meaning situation

Inspiration: Axl dating Erin Everly
Meaning: Father/daughter

Kinda like VH "Jump"

Inspiration: DLR sees a guy about to commit suicide atop a building
Meaning: I'm a random dude that you should hook up with

What I got I'm gonna donate to your mama
What I got I'm gonna donate to your papa
What I got I'm gonna donate to your daughter
You do a little dance and then you drink a little water
What I got I'm gonna donate put it in you
What I got I'm gonna donate put it in you
What I got I'm gonna donate put it in you
Feelin' good, my brother gonna hug me, drinkin' my juice, young love chug-a-lug me

That's quite the charity.....

Here's another creepy song reference to a 14 year old girl:

Well, I can tell a story about my morning
Watching Boy Meets World and jerking off to Topanga Lawrence
Like the 14 year old Topanga

-Lil Dicky (featuring Snoop) "Professional Rapper"

I'm guessing the 1st one.
This song was number one in October of 1982. My wife has always hated JCM but never knew exactly why. This song was #1 the week she lost her first baby and I think she subconciously transfered her hatred to the artist she heard most on the radio at the time. This is one song which I know when it was number 1 without ever having to look up again.

27 good.

They have done the next week's chart before (09/11).

We enjoy a #40 peak this week. This song entered the chart at #40 last week and could do nothing more than hold that #40 this week. Gone next week.
