I missed "Chariots of Fire" and put the wrong Lionel song. Other than that, got 'em all and almost in the right order. My guess for 1982.
This is why I avoid the 80s thread after posting my guess..... until after I've heard the countdown. And right now I'm listening to #1.You look to be correct.
BROKEN CHART!!! (since at least 2013)It debuted on the August 15 2020 Hot 100 chart at #19 – and the next week fell to #99
40: TAKE OFF - BOB & DOUG McKENZIE
I am your father, Luke. Give in to the dark side of the force, you knob.
Don't forget Geddy!It's a British thing. Don't worry about it.How does one play a U chord?
No surprises.Won't ever make the top 40
I call the early 80s the "Young Turks" era for Rod Stewart. He did about 10 songs that sound almost exactly the same. FYI: "Young Turks" is still on the hot 100. Heading down.27: TONIGHT I'M YOURS - ROD STEWART
If you're gonna play "Young Turks", just play "Young Turks" not this counterfeit!
This was huge on my local Urban radio station when I was a kid. It was a #1 R&B hit.33: CALL ME - SKYY
Just did a search in this thread. It's the second time this song has aired since I've been listening to the VJ. Didn't sound familiar.
I heard this on a streaming service and had to look it up. It sounded like "Young Turks" so I wanted to see it was on that album. My suspicions were confirmed...27: TONIGHT I'M YOURS - ROD STEWART

I'm thinking 2/23 too. I looked at the calendar and it was the fourth Saturday of the month.Next week is 1980. Either 02/23 or 03/01 most likely the 23rd. Won't be a repeat countdown. I was going to make a guess @ #1 but didn't because I don't want to spoil sadchilds fun. Turns out I would have been completely wrong as I was thinking of 1981. If it was 1981 I would have been right.
This was around the time Stars On 45 was big, so I assumed maybe they thought they'd ride that gravy train by recording a dance version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". But then I went & listened to it, & they turned the song into a slow jam. So much for that theory.
- #102 - The Lakeside track is a Beatles remake. I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea. This is the same group that sang "Fantastic Voyage" and made the cheesy Indiana Jones rip-off video.
I loved the album "TIme" by ELO. But listening to it, the only song I saw with single potential was "Hold On Tight". I didn't think they actually released any other singles from the album. Looks like they did and I was right. Here are the songs below the 100 for 2/20/82.
Bubbling Under The Hot 100
#101 E.L.O. "Rain is Falling (peaked at this position)

I was surprised the song reached #5 on the R&B chart. I didn't remember this one and I'm not upset about that. This was around the time Stars On 45 was big, so I assumed maybe they thought they'd ride that gravy train by recording a dance version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". I did a little research on the single releases. It's interesting "Twilight" peaked at #38. It peaked for two weeks and both weeks were played on the countdown too: Nov 29, 2015 and Dec 4, 2016.
Singles from Time:
Videos were made for "Twilight", "Ticket to the Moon", "Here Is the News", and "Hold On Tight". The video for "Rain is Falling" on the Bubbling Under playlist is a fan video.
- "Hold On Tight" - Released: 17 July 1981 (peaked at #10)
- "Twilight" - Released: 10 October 1981 (peaked at #38, #30 UK)
- "Ticket to the Moon / Here Is the News" Released: 11 December 1981 (#24 UK, not released as a single in the U.S.)
- "Rain Is Falling" Released: January 1982 (peak at #101)
- "The Way Life's Meant to Be" - Released: March 1982 (#85 UK, not released as a single in the U.S.)
I created a mini playlist of the videos:
I didn't know it until ..... right now! She's down with OPP!! (Yeah you know she!!)I didn't realize the premise of the song at that time
InterestingThis is the first time I've seen a Bubbling Under where none of the songs broke the 100!
And yet nobody knows the song!the biggest dance single of 1982
She certainly is...I didn't know it until ..... right now! She's down with OPP!! (Yeah you know she!!)
This has piqued my interest. I feel like it will be a while before we see this again.Interesting
I heard this one before, but I'm not sure where. It looks like it never made it's way out of the clubs and on to radio. I guess they tried to get him more exposure. I found a clip from American Bandstand. And yet nobody knows the song!
I agree. I would maybe call them a no hit wonder because I don't think the song is played frequently.I caught pieces of the VJ a second time in the car and was reminded that MG said "Don't call Skyy a one-hit wonder. They had two hits, maybe three".
Skyy
#26 "Call Me"
#47 "Real Love"
#102 "High"
So, he's got his own definition of one-hit wonder....
The only albums I have of them in their entirety is Discovery and Time. Both excellent albums for different reasons.BTW - the ELO chatter above got me to thinking why I never dug into them past the Greatest Hits CD I own. So I went shopping & ended up ordering 6 of their albums ( this is how these things work with me a lotta the time ).
