25 good this week.

They did the 1983/01/15 countdown before.

This week has a #40 peak.

The highest debuting song on the Top 100 is "All Right" @ #29. The second highest is "Billy Jean" @ #47. Wonder which will do better?

(42) 40. PUT IT IN A MAGAZINE - SONNY CHARLES
This is one of those weird "not only have I never heard it...I've never even heard OF it" tunes. Didn't hate it when I listened on YouTube, though.

(24) 24. I DO - THE J. GEILS BAND

Holy crap...I'd forgotten ALL about this song.Hadn't heard it in a gajillion years.

Not much more to add for me...this is a great batch of early 80's pop music. Although I'm pretty sure I knew most of these tunes more from MTV than listening to the radio.

40. PUT IT IN A MAGAZINE - SONNY CHARLES

At first I thought he said he was gonna put his love in a magazine, like grab a Playboy and make the pages sticky. Glad that's not what he was actually singing! Eww. Though there is a Counting Crows song that goes:

So I write to all the girlie magazines
Splash my passion on the pages in-between

37. BAD BOY - RAY PARKER JR

I admit that I was messing around...
Now that the love affair is over
Here I come running back to you
So go ahead, girl, and punish me
'Cause I deserve to be hurt too
I've been a bad boy...
Now I got to be punished
Come on, spank me, whip me
Let me come back home
Break out the leather, baby
Go ahead, spank me, whip me
Let me come back home where I belong

The hell??

11. YOU AND I - EDDIE RABBITT WITH CRYSTAL GAYLE

5. AFRICA - TOTO

My guess

1. DOWN UNDER - MEN AT WORK

At least one of the other two chose this one. I lose.

Won't get into the top 40:
#41 Glenn Frey "All Those Lies"
#45 America "Right Before Your Eyes"
#50 Lanier & Co "After I Cry Tonight"
#55 Wolf (Bill Wolfer) "Papa Was A Rolling Stone"
#57 Tyrone Davis "Are You Serious"

Won't get into the top 40:
#41 Glenn Frey "All Those Lies"

That has to suck to get stopped @ #41. If they made it to #40 somebody may have heard it on the top 40 and got some more play and get into the low 30s.

Won't get into the top 40:

#68 Who "Eminence Front"
#75 Dire Straits "Industrial Disease"
#98 Scandal "Goodbye To You"
This week's surprises.

...and one of the most hated songs of all time, NewSong's The Christmas Shoes in 2000. David Bowie's Changes was a re-issue. It first came out in 1972 and peaked at #66. From Me To You was a re-issue. It first charted in 1963. It got to #116. Top-40 KRLA in Pasadena was one of the first stations to play it.
