Teena Marie was at #8 with Lovergirl. The song had reached #4 in the last week of March 1985. It was her biggest hit. (Actually she had only one other top-40 hit, I Need Your Lovin'.) On another thread this week, some of us mentioned the 1962-71 CBS sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. In 1964, eight-year-old Teena Marie appeared on the show. She was billed as Tina Marie Brockert. Her real name is Mary Christine Brockert. In the episode, Jed had received an honorary doctorate after making a huge donation to Mr. Drysdale's alma mater. Jed's family mistakenly believes he can practice medicine. Tina's mother mistakenly believes Jed can make a big star of the little girl.

This is roughly 8 months into my radio "career". Let's see what we got.

40. ONLY THE YOUNG - JOURNEY

I wanna say this one was from a soundtrack - "Vision Quest", maybe? I remember we played several cuts from that album. They may have tacked this onto the next Journey album, too. I dunno.

This has been your Vague Journey Information Update.

37. VOX HUMANA - KENNY LOGGINS

I remember this one kinda being a dud ( album-wise, at least ) for Soundtrack Boy. I also remember playing it one night, & having the kid of someone who worked in our ad department coming into the studio unattended & banging into the turntable, sending the tone arm SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHING across the record. That wasn't annoying at ALL.
34. EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD - TEARS FOR FEARS

One of those songs that at the time I never needed to hear again due to burnout...but now always gives me warm feelings & good memories. Weird how that works, ain't it?

33. LUCKY - GREG KINH BAND

I always liked this one, but a little surprised it got this high. I remember it being a bit of a stiff compared to his other stuff.
31. FOREVER MAN - ERIC CLAPTON

We played so many Gawddamned tracks from this record, at one point I think we were playing the gaps between the songs.
20. TOO LATE FOR GOODBYES - JULIAN LENNON

He started out so strong with this album & its hits, then...nothin'. I have his "best of" - I should see if there's other stuff on there I like. I probably won't, but I should.
19. HIGH ON YOU - SURVIVOR

We presented them in Joplin, MO on this tour. I remember the drummer collapsed backstage after the show. Not to worry, though - he survived.

16. JUST ANOTHER NIGHT - MICK JAGGER

I remember his label ( Columbia, I think ) spending a gazillion dollars in a gazillion ways to make this thing popular, & it just did OK. Keef had to be amused.

14. SOMEBODY - BRYAN ADAMS

Neither a big fan or a hater of his stuff, but I heard that whole "Reckless" album from start to finish a few years ago. And I was just impressed with what a monster it was. Like, practically genetically created in some Canadian lab somewhere to dominate 1980's rock radio. I liked this one the most of the singles from it.

13. CAN'T FIGHT THIS FEELING - REO SPEEDWAGON

Hated it then. Hate it now.
12. ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK - MURRAY HEAD

Dude, the 80's were fuckin' WEIRD.

11. DON'T YOU (FORGET ABOUT ME) - SIMPLE MINDS

"It's gonna be a couple years until there's a new U2 record. You guys wanna fill in the gap until then? Once it's over, it's back to being mildly popular."

( shrugs ) "Yeah, sure."

7. RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT - DEBARGE

Always thought this song had some pure joy in it. Which you didn't hear a lot of in the mid-80's. There's gotta be a cheap DeBarge "best of" I could pick up... ( off to Amazon )
5. MATERIAL GIRL - MADONNA

I think this & "True Blue" were the only singles of hers in the 80's I didn't like. "Crazy For You" is lame, too - but that's just soundtrack fodder.
4. NIGHTSHIFT - THE COMMODORES

"Wait...Lionel's gone? Shit...sorry about that, guys. All right...you can keep this 1 last hit."
3. CRAZY FOR YOU - MADONNA

Ha ha...literally didn't realize this was waiting for me 2 lines later. See above. Christ...she could have a hit with a record of armpit fart noises at this point.
1. WE ARE THE WORLD - USA FOR AFRICA

Great cause. Awful song.

34. EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD - TEARS FOR FEARS

One of those songs that at the time I never needed to hear again due to burnout...but now always gives me warm feelings & good memories. Weird how that works, ain't it?
It's a good thing.
33. LUCKY - GREG KINH BAND

I always liked this one, but a little surprised it got this high. I remember it being a bit of a stiff compared to his other stuff.
I don't really remember it. I'm surprised it broke 40.

There was soooo much promise with him, and then nothing. It's too bad.

19. HIGH ON YOU - SURVIVOR

We presented them in Joplin, MO on this tour. I remember the drummer collapsed backstage after the show. Not to worry, though - he survived.

12. ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK - MURRAY HEAD

Dude, the 80's were fuckin' WEIRD
And great at the same time.

Vague Journey Information Update
A VJIU? Will this be a recurring thing?

Weird how that works, ain't it?
Yep can totally relate!

then...nothin'
I always wondered about that too. Same with Dylan's kid (Wallflowers)

I heard that whole "Reckless" album from start to finish a few years ago.
It's the only album of his I own and listen to start to finish. His others I just have mp3s of the few songs I like.

she could have a hit with a record of armpit fart noises at this point
Yup. But I was no 80s Madonna fan. Only like a few of her 80s singles.

25. DON'T COME AROUND HERE NO MORE - TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS

My wife thinks she heard this song in a movie. Any ideas?

Huh, only got 14 out of 40. The rest I either dislike or have never heard of. Any countdown with Barely Manenough in the top 40 can't be all that great.
