It's Raining Men was the theme song of "Men On Film," a recurring sketch on the 1990-94 FOX comedy series In Living Color featuring Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather, two flamboyantly gay film critics portrayed, respectively, by Damon Wayans and David Allen Grier. "Saw Dick Tracy. Loved the title!"

#53 Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way"
A bit of a surprise.
#50 Clash "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"
A surprise
#62 Berlin "Sex (I'm A)"
Not really a surprise, but I love the song.
#64 Robert Hazard "Escalator Of Life"
I surprised it made it anywhere near 60, but I like the song.
#66 Adam Ant "Desperate But Not Serious"
A bit of a surprise. I would have thought it would have made it to 50.
#70 Missing Persons "Walking in LA"
Big surprise. I thought this would have broken 40.

Swingin', which John Anderson co-wrote with Lionel Delmore, went to number one on the country chart in March 1983 and won a CMA award for single of the year. On an episode of Nashville Now, Ralph Emery asked Anderson why he sings the word as "swangin'" while his backup singers say "swingin." Anderson confessed, "Someone has to sing it properly – and I sure cain't." He also turned "pie" into a two-syllable word!
In my top 10 of favorite country songs.

Having a tough time with 1980.

For all of March, April and May, I could only think of two potential songs.

Blondie "Call Me"
Pink Floyd "Another Brick In The Wall"

I know "Call Me" is one of the biggest songs of the decade, but I can't imagine Pink was at the top for more than a week or two. That doesn't fill 12-13 weeks for those 3 months. So I'm probably missing a few.

EARLIER:
Blondie "The Tide Is High" (Feb?)
Captain & Tennille "Do That To Me One More Time"
KC "Please Don't Go" (Jan)
Michael Jackson "Rock With You" (Jan)
Queen "Crazy Little Thing" (Feb?)
Rupert Holmes "Escape" (Jan)

LATER:
Billy Joel "It's Still Rock And Roll" (summer)
Christopher Cross "Sailing" (summer...?)
Lipps Inc "Funkytown" (spring/summer)
Olivia Newton John "Magic" (summer)
Paul McCartney "Coming Up" (summer)

That makes it 1981 in my book. I go by its first week @ peak not debut week on top 100. But either date is after April 1980.

Pilot of the Airwaves - a guilty pleasure like
I like it too. When they did the AT40, they made a Kasey version which I thought was quite corny. I hate when they change songs for a particular dj or city (like "Heart of Rock & Roll" and "We Built This City" for example).

Three Times In Love reached #19 on the Hot 100 in March 1980. It was Tommy James' final top-40 hit. James, born Thomas Jackson in Dayton, Ohio, began playing a ukulele when he was three years old. At age nine, he learned to play guitar. A year later, he bought an electric guitar. At age 11, he and his family moved to Niles, Michigan. At age 12, he and some of his seventh-grade classmates, members of the school band, formed the Shondells. Tommy worked part-time at a local record store and met a man who owned a recording studio. Still at the age of 12, he took his group to the studio and they recorded Long Pony Tail. Five hundred copies were pressed. Jack Douglas, a DJ at WNIL in Niles and the founder of the Snap record label, heard the song on the radio and contacted Tommy to ask, "Do you have any more songs to record?" Tommy liked Hanky Panky, written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, who, as The Raindrops, had recorded it in 1963. Tommy James & The Shondells recorded their own version in late 1963 and it became a regional hit in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana.

Mad Mike Metro (Metrovich), a DJ at WZUM in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, began playing the Shondells' Hanky Panky in December 1965 and the song finally became a national hit after being released by Roulette Records. It went to number one in July 1966. The original members of the Shondells had gone their separate ways so Tommy recruited a Pittsburgh band, the Raconteurs, to be the new Shondells. They charted 12 top-40 hits, including the number-one Crimson & Clover. Tommy went solo in 1970 but had only three top-40 solo hits: Draggin' The Line, I'm Comin' Home and Three Times In Love. Here is his final chart appearance, You're So Easy To Love, which peaked at #58 in June 1981:

I am not really surprised about any of these but the Romantics one but I heard these a lot on the radio back then. The Red Rider & Nazareth are Canadian bands and those songs would have got more play here. The other 2 were sort of novelty songs so I can see why they wouldn't break the top 40.
