I did a search in this thread for the word Notorious (looking for a countdown that has the Loverboy song in it), but only Duranx2 showed up. So I can't copy an old posting of this week's 1987 top 40 from this board. Guess we'll have to wait until mid-week for SXM to do it on Facebook? They usually drop it Tuesday or Wednesday....
I usually end up typing them. Gosh being able to copy them would be awesome!

40. HOURGLASS - SQUEEZE
Had to miss seeing these guys live for the first time this year, because we're still being dipshits about Covid. Nice work, America.
37. WIPEOUT - THE FAT BOYS AND THE BEACH BOYS
And yet rap is still around today, regardless of The Fat Boys attempts to murder it in its crib. Awful.
36. CAN'T WE TRY - DAN HILL WITH VONDA SHEPARD
No. We can't.
35. LA BAMBA - LOS LOBOS
34. COME ON, LET'S GO - LOS LOBOS
Dos Lobos!
33. WHEN SMOKEY SINGS - ABC
Man, I love ABC. I like how Martin Fry was never afraid to just change everything like, "You expected more of the same? Too bad - we're doing THIS now".
29. HOLIDAY - THE OTHER ONES
You NEVER hear this on the radio anymore. Shame, as I always really liked it.
28. SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER - RICHARD MARX
I never cared about his music one way or another, but dude is SOLID on Twitter.
25. I'VE HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE - BILL MEDLEY AND JENNIFER WARNES
I was always the one guy in the group who never liked the movies everyone else did. This was one example.

Overall, a pretty bleak Top 40. A few good tunes, but that's about it.

13 out of 40 for this one. Not the best 80's countdown. Any countdown with Kenny G automatically loses points with me.

I thought his first two albums were okay. And yes he's awesome on Twitter.

36. CAN'T WE TRY - DAN HILL WITH VONDA SHEPARD

6. HERE I GO AGAIN - WHITESNAKE

One of the people I compete against chose this one. It was #1 last week.

4. BAD - MICHAEL JACKSON

The other person picked this one. It will be #1 next week.

1. LOST IN EMOTION - LISA LISA AND CULT JAM

I came up with five potentials.

*This one
*MJ "Can't Stop" (#39 peaked 9/19)
*Madonna "Who's That Girl" (#70, peaked 8/22)
*two songs that peaked in 1988 ("Wishing Well"/"Seasons Change").

I ultimately chose "Who's That Girl", so I got whooped yet again. 1987 is one of the hardest years for me personally. And the fact there's eight songs in the second half of the year that only hit #1 for one week makes it even tougher.

#46 Anita Baker "No One In The World"

Video directed by Spike Lee. Starts with a newspaper headline "Japs Quit!". Then a white guy starts playing an old West bar saloon type song at The Apollo, gets booed, then killed. Very odd.

#96 Monkees "Heart And Soul"

This music video is something else. Thawed out by robotic hair dryers. Dressed up as glam rockers. Kinda funny, but very dumb.

#97 Yello "Oh Yeah"

I'm really digging their new album! My wife likes the first track. My son was mesmerized by the video for track 4.

Songs that won't reach the top 40
#46 Anita Baker "No One In The World"
#52 Noel "Silent Morning"
#58 Starship "Beat Patrol"
#61 Donna Summer "Dinner With Gershwin"
#62 Taja Seville "Love Is Contagious"
#65 Wendy & Lisa "Waterfall"
#68 Hooters "Satellite"
#69 Glen Burtnik "Follow You"
#71 Kiss "Crazy Crazy Nights"
#72 Great White "Rock Me"
#78 Bee Gees "You Win Again"
#81 Curiosity Killed the Cat "Misfit"
#83 Pink Floyd "Learning To Fly"
#86 Samantha Fox "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now"
#87 Atlantic Starr "One Lover At A Time"
#88 Kool & The Gang "Special Way"
#89 Living In A Box "So The Story Goes"
#90 Big Trouble "Crazy World"
#92 Stephanie Mills "(You're Puttin') A Rush On Me"
#94 John Waite "Don't Lose Any Sleep"
#96 Monkees "Heart And Soul"
#97 Yello "Oh Yeah"

A little studying goes a long way.

These 2 are suprising. The Pink Floyd is a great song.

Yello's only Hot 100 entry is "Oh Yeah". But I stumbled on that first track and liked it. Then I liked track 4. Then I started liking a few more. I would've bought the album already, but I'm a tough person to shop for at Xmas and bdays, so I put it on my Amazon wishlist. I should I have the CD in a couple months (if I don't get it as a gift, I'll just buy it).

My friend who runs the "guess the #1 song" game also really liked that first track.

As for better learning the #1 songs, I've looked at those lists -- but never for the year that's coming up next week. I like to play legitimately. I will say that last week, just for fun, I took a shot at guessing the #1 song for every year 1978-1992, and every song I picked was at least on the Hot 100. Not bad! I have the list at home. I'll post it later. I remember my guess for '78 was "Hot Child In The City" and '79 was "My Sharona". Um, 1980 was "Woman In Love".

IRBS Re. Yello hits: I was talking about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. That soundtrack really brought Oh Yeah to everyone’s attention.

After I made my "No. We can't" crack above, I thought "You know, I haven't heard that song in a gazillion years. Maybe that was a cheap shot.". So I went & listened to it.

If anything, I was too kind. Sweet Jeezus, what a pile of schlock.

I think I've heard maybe half of these.

That Monkees song & album pretty much ended their 80's comeback.

That KISS album is an interesting story - they didn't put out a record in '86 because they were waiting for Ron Nevison to become available. The band had done well since taking its makeup off 4 years prior, but not well enough. By 1987, KISS Co. was in rough shape, & needed a big hit. So they went the Heart route, to the degree that they even brought in Nevison to produce their next record ( a lot of people compare this album/era to Bon Jovi, but I think the Heart comparison is a closer one ). The album did better than their last one ( especially overseas ), but was not the smash/windfall they hoped for. The "Crazy Nights" tour was somewhat infamous for short shows ( 70-75 minutes ) & performances that could be charitably described as "going though the motions". When they closed the book on this chapter, they shit-canned their long time management team.
