I'm glad the Medley fad only lasted a year or so. What were we thinking?

Also Mark Goodman basically told the same story both before and after the Smokey Robinson song at #4. Strange production indeed.

Wasn't one of them Alan Hunter? One gave up the name of the #1 song too. The other didn't. The same story told on opposite sides has happened before. It probably means that the VJs are responsible for coming up with what they talk about when they are assigned their segments. There is no overall supervising continuity producer to vet their stories. They just slice it all together and then Friday @ 9 hit Play.

Bad 27

From #40 to #28 were all bads for me except "Sweet Baby" which got an okay.

2. MEDLEY – STARS ON 45

I agree about medleys, but my wife was digging the song and said "I like that I don't have the hear the whole song, just little pieces of each one." So there's that I guess.

1. BETTE DAVIS EYES – KIM CARNES

Even though I like this song, my son and I were goofing on her scratchy vox. For anyone that used to watch Strong Bad Emails back in the day, he said Carnes kinda reminds him of the way Creepy Combover Strong Bad talks.

#59 Joe Dolce "Shaddap You Face"

My son and I quote this song all the time. "Ey, what's a matta you? It'sa not so bad." "Ah shadduppa you face!"

Wasn't into them in '87, but by 1990 I was a HUGE fan.

This and the other INXS song on Lost Boys are both great (and long forgotten unfortunately). Most of the songs on that soundtrack are quite good actually.

32. PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE – DEPECHE MODE

Pisses me off that DM only had 2 top 40 hits in the 80s, and the VJs never talk about the band in these rare cases they are in the countdown. I've learned more about Expose and Air Supply than I could ever care to know, but still no perspective about one of my fav bands of all time.

12. VOICES CARRY – ‘TIL TUESDAY

Never knew the original lyrics were sung girl-to-girl. Interesting bit o' trivia!

11. WALKING ON SUNSHINE – KATRINA AND THE WAVES

Loved this when I was teenager, but been kinda sick of it for the last decade or two.

8. WOULD I LIE TO YOU – THE EURYTHMICS

This is where they lost me (not that I was ever a super-fan, but I lost interest here).

4. RASPBERRY BERET – PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION

My raspberry back at this song.

raspberry-tongue.jpg

#42 Gino Vanelli "Black Cars"

Didn't hear it until about 1990, but have liked it ever since.

#68 Klymaxx "Meeting In The Ladies Room"

He looks good, good enough to eat
But believe me, lady, he belongs to me, yeah
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon
Don't slap me 'cause I'm not in the mood

WTF??

#72 George Thorogood "Will & The Hand Jive"

His ONLY Hot 100 hit? That's criminal!

#77 Jean Knight "My Toot Toot"

When I was born in my birth suit,
The doctor slapped my behind
He said, "You're gonna be special,
You sweet little toot toot"
Now, you can look as much
But if you much as touch,
You're gonna have yourself a case
I'm gonna break your face
So, don't mess with my toot toot

WT flying F??

Will never reach the top 40
#42 Gino Vanelli "Black Cars"
#47 Men At Work "Everything I Need"
#50 Commodores "Animal Instinct"

#68 Klymaxx "Meeting In The Ladies Room"
#69 Chaka Khan "Through The Fire"
#72 George Thorogood "Will & The Hand Jive"
#73 Natalie Cole "Dangerous"
#77 Jean Knight "My Toot Toot"
#81 Menudo "Hold Me"
#83 Dokken "Alone Again"
#98 Atlantic Starr "Freak-A-Ristic"

Amen.

12. VOICES CARRY – ‘TIL TUESDAY

I did not know that.
I'm not surprised that the label made them change it.

11. WALKING ON SUNSHINE – KATRINA AND THE WAVES

Loved this when I was teenager, but been kinda sick of it for the last decade or two.
It goes in....well...waves for me. I was crazy sick of it back in the 80's, but from time to time it can catch me when I kind of like to hear it. Now that it isn't on 20 different TV commercials, it's probably easier to forget about it long enough that I don't mind when I do hear it.

8. WOULD I LIE TO YOU – THE EURYTHMICS

This is where they lost me (not that I was ever a super-fan, but I lost interest here).
I was always ok with this one. It was nice to just hear them bang away at a simple rock song.

#72 George Thorogood "Will & The Hand Jive"

His ONLY Hot 100 hit? That's criminal!
That shocks me. What Scotch said.

Will never reach the top 40
#58 Hooters "All You Zombies"
Always loved this song. Though it went a bit higher.
#83 Dokken "Alone Again"
I thought this charted higher too. I dug Georges guitar tone.

I know. Insane that "Bad To The Bone" never touched the Hot 100. I can't find any record of it even bubbling under. Guess it didn't crossover to the Morning Zoo's of the early 80s (ha!). And it only peaked at #27 on the rock chart #wtf
Well, as a consolation, it's probably made them a billion dollars in royalties from movies, TV shows, and commercials.

If I was making a million bucks a year off of one song, sunshine would be shooting outta my butt.

Good for them!
Too bad Katrina didn't stay on good terms with the rest of the band.

It's the people named as songwriters that are cashing in. Not necessarily the band.
